Role Type: Senior Architect / Hands-On Delivery Lead

Position Summary

Seine Client is seeking an experienced Data Architect / MuleSoft Expert to join our Technology Practice and support a strategic client engagement focused on modernizing legacy tax management and tax preparation systems used to serve corporate customers.

This role requires a senior technology professional who can operate as both an enterprise architect and hands-on implementation leader. The ideal candidate will bring deep MuleSoft Anypoint Platform expertise, strong data architecture experience, and the ability to design scalable, secure, reusable integration and data solutions for complex financial and tax-related business processes.

The selected candidate will work closely with Seine Client leadership, customer stakeholders, business analysts, tax subject matter experts, offshore development resources, and technical delivery teams to define the target architecture, establish integration and data best practices, and help deliver modernized solutions that improve automation, data quality, reporting, and operational efficiency.

Candidate should be comfortable with enterprise tax automation, data transformation, analytics, tax engine optimization, and real-time insights, making this role highly aligned to legacy tax platform modernization, data integration, and automation.

Key Responsibilities

The Data Architect / MuleSoft Expert will be responsible for leading architecture, design, and hands-on implementation activities across the modernization program.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead current-state assessment and target-state architecture for legacy tax management, tax preparation, reporting, workflow, and data integration environments.
  • Design scalable MuleSoft-based integration architecture using API-led connectivity patterns, including reusable System APIs, Process APIs, and Experience APIs.
  • Define data architecture standards, canonical data models, data mappings, data transformation rules, and integration contracts.
  • Design and implement secure, governed, reusable integrations across legacy platforms, tax systems, enterprise applications, databases, reporting tools, and cloud platforms.
  • Provide both architecture best-practice guidance and hands-on delivery support for complex APIs, integrations, data transformations, and production-critical components.
  • Use MuleSoft Anypoint Platform capabilities such as API Manager, Runtime Manager, Exchange, Anypoint Studio, DataWeave, connectors, monitoring, and governance tooling.
  • Establish best practices for API governance, security, logging, monitoring, error handling, resiliency, versioning, CI/CD, and operational support.
  • Partner with tax business stakeholders to understand data flows, calculations, compliance needs, reporting requirements, and operational pain points.
  • Translate business and tax-domain requirements into scalable data, integration, and application architecture.
  • Support modernization of manual, spreadsheet-driven, or legacy processes into governed, automated, supportable platform capabilities.
  • Lead design reviews, code reviews, integration reviews, technical walkthroughs, and delivery quality checkpoints.
  • Manage and mentor a small team of offshore technical resources when needed, including task planning, technical guidance, quality review, and delivery coordination.
  • Support testing, defect triage, data validation, release planning, deployment, cutover, production stabilization, and knowledge transfer.
  • Create and maintain architecture deliverables, including solution blueprints, data models, API specifications, integration designs, mapping documents, technical decision logs, and operational runbooks.
  • Identify technical risks and recommend mitigation strategies related to legacy systems, data quality, performance, security, scalability, integration complexity, and delivery timelines.

MuleSoft’s Anypoint API Governance capabilities are designed to apply governance rules across the API lifecycle, including design-time and deployment-time governance, which aligns directly with the expectations for this role.

Candidates should have the following required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Data Management, or a related technology field.
  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in data architecture, integration architecture, enterprise application modernization, or complex platform implementation.
  • Deep hands-on experience with MuleSoft Anypoint Platform.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise integration solutions using MuleSoft.
  • Strong understanding of API-led connectivity, reusable integration patterns, service-oriented architecture, event-driven integration, batch integration, and real-time data exchange.
  • Hands-on experience with REST APIs, SOAP services, DataWeave, JSON, XML, SQL, file-based integrations, database integrations, and enterprise application connectors.
  • Ability to design and implement secure, scalable, reusable, and supportable APIs and integration services.
  • Experience defining data models, data mapping rules, canonical models, transformation logic, and data validation approaches.
  • Experience working across the full delivery lifecycle, including discovery, architecture, design, build, test, deployment, stabilization, and support transition.
  • Strong understanding of integration security, authentication, authorization, encryption, API policies, monitoring, logging, and error handling.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with executive stakeholders, business users, tax subject matter experts, enterprise architects, developers, testers, and offshore delivery teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership while also contributing directly to hands-on implementation work.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, or coordinating small technical teams, including offshore resources.
  • Strong consulting mindset with the ability to work in a client-facing environment, manage ambiguity, and deliver practical solutions.

The following preferred qualifications are highly desirable:

  • MuleSoft architect-level certification, such as MuleSoft Platform Architect or MuleSoft Platform Integration Architect.
  • MuleSoft Developer certification.
  • Experience with Snowflake, Snowflake AI Data Cloud, and Snowflake data engineering patterns.
  • Experience and/or certification related to Snowflake Cortex, especially cases involving AI functions, LLM functions, document intelligence, data enrichment, summarization, classification, or analytics automation.
  • Snowflake’s Cortex AI Functions support use cases such as entity extraction, classification, summarization, document parsing, translation, and analytics using LLMs hosted within Snowflake.
  • SnowPro certifications are a plus, especially SnowPro Associate: Platform, which includes Snowflake Cortex LLM functions, or SnowPro Specialty: Gen AI, which validates Gen AI skills using Snowflake Cortex AI features and LLMs.
  • Experience with financial tax systems, corporate tax reporting, tax preparation platforms, tax workflow automation, direct tax, indirect tax, tax engines, or tax data management.
  • Experience with tax platforms or related ecosystems such as ONESOURCE, Vertex, Domo, ERP tax modules, financial reporting systems, or custom tax applications.
  • Experience modernizing legacy systems, manual workflows, spreadsheet-based processes, or fragmented data environments.
  • Experience in professional services, consulting, advisory, financial services, accounting, or compliance-sensitive environments.
  • Experience with cloud data platforms, data lakes, data warehouses, ETL/ELT tools, reporting platforms, and analytics solutions.

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps, automated testing, source control, deployment automation, and release governance.
  • Experience working with distributed teams across the U.S. and offshore delivery centers.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate is a senior architect who can comfortably move between strategy, architecture, and implementation. This person should be able to lead a design session with business stakeholders in the morning, review MuleSoft integration patterns with developers in the afternoon, and troubleshoot a complex data transformation or production issue when needed.

The best candidate will have:

  • Strong MuleSoft architecture and implementation depth.
  • Practical data architecture experience.
  • Confidence working with business and tax stakeholders.
  • Ability to simplify complex legacy environments.
  • Strong hands-on technical credibility.
  • Experience leading small, distributed teams.
  • A consulting mindset focused on client outcomes.
  • The discipline to build reusable, governed, well-documented integration assets rather than one-off point solutions.

Success Measures in this role will be measured by the candidate’s ability to:

  • Establish a scalable, reusable MuleSoft integration architecture.
  • Improve the reliability and consistency of tax-related data flows.
  • Reduce dependency on brittle legacy integrations and manual data movement.

  • Deliver hands-on implementation work where senior expertise is required.
  • Produce high-quality architecture and technical documentation.
  • Support secure, governed, supportable production deployments.
  • Help the client move from legacy tax operations toward a more automated, data-driven, and scalable platform model.
