Minimum qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or cloud platform development.
- 5+ years of experience designing and building large-scale data pipelines and ETL/ELT solutions.
- Experience developing applications and services using Python.
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform), including Composer (Airflow), BigQuery, Cloud Storage, and related data services.
- Experience leading technical initiatives and collaborating across multiple stakeholders.
Preferred qualifications- Experience migrating data pipelines, platforms, or enterprise workloads from one technology stack to another.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), including Terraform.
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipeline frameworks and reusable pipeline libraries.
- Experience with distributed data processing and cloud-native architectures.
- Financial services industry experience.
- Ability to balance hands-on development responsibilities with technical leadership and stakeholder management.
About the jobWe are seeking a Lead Data Platform Engineer to join the Google Cloud Platform Data Platform organization. In this role, you will lead the modernization and migration of enterprise data pipelines and platform capabilities to Google Cloud Platform. You will drive complex technical initiatives, partner with cross-functional teams, and contribute to the development of scalable, resilient, and secure cloud-based data solutions.
The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in data engineering and cloud technologies with strong leadership and communication skills. This role requires both hands-on engineering and the ability to coordinate efforts across architecture, networking, platform, and business teams to deliver strategic data platform capabilities.
Responsibilities- Lead the design, development, and deployment of enterprise-scale data pipeline migration initiatives within Google Cloud Platform.
- Own and deliver migration workstreams for data platforms, pipelines, and supporting infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain scalable ETL/ELT solutions using Python and cloud-native technologies.
- Design, implement, and support workflow orchestration solutions using Cloud Composer (Apache Airflow) and related Google Cloud Platform services.
- Drive adoption and implementation of reusable CI/CD pipeline libraries, deployment frameworks, and engineering best practices.
- Partner with architecture, networking, platform engineering, security, and business stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to a small team of engineers while remaining actively involved in solution development.
- Define and promote standards for reliability, scalability, automation, observability, and operational excellence.
- Support Infrastructure as Code implementations using Terraform and related automation tools.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical challenges involving cloud infrastructure, data processing, performance optimization, and platform integrations.
- Contribute to long-term platform strategy and cloud transformation initiatives across the organization.
