Employment type: Full-time / Direct hire
Job Description:
This is an infrastructure Solutions Architect role, not an application architect role. You will sit between Application Architects and the engineering teams, and your job is to turn a logical application design into a physical one: the accounts, the VPCs, the load balancers, the data tier, the security controls, and the bill of materials that engineering builds from.
If you have spent the last five years in a regulated enterprise designing AWS platforms that cannot go down, this will read like your resume. If your AWS experience is mostly greenfield single-account work, this one will be a stretch.
What you'll actually do:
- Translate application requirements into infrastructure-aligned solution designs
- Produce detailed technical designs, architecture diagrams, deployment specs and BOMs
- Architect across compute, storage, networking, database, IAM, security, Kubernetes and AWS platform services
- Design for high availability, resiliency, multi-region and disaster recovery
- Stay with the build through deployment, testing, validation and production readiness
- Integrate enterprise shared services and security controls into AWS application platforms
You're a fit if you've hands-on designed:
- AWS Landing Zone: multi-account structures, VPC, Security Groups, Cloud WAN
- PrivateLink and VPC Endpoints, Network Load Balancers
- EBS, EFS, FSx, S3
- EC2 plus OpenShift and/or Amazon EKS
- SDN/networking, including F5 GTM
- IAM, identity federation, secrets management, PKI
- RDS and Aurora Global Database, and can explain the failover behaviour you designed for
- OS internals, host-based firewalls and application stacks
Shared services integration:
Real experience with several of: Apigee (API gateway), Ping (reverse proxy / identity), Redis (caching), Confluent Kafka (streaming), IBM MQ (messaging), HashiCorp Vault (secrets), Snowflake.
Experience:
5+ years infrastructure engineering/architecture, including 5+ years spanning multiple disciplines (compute, storage, networking, database, shared services, security, AWS). Bachelor's preferred. You will be presenting designs to application teams and defending them to security, so communication is not a soft nice-to-have here.
A note on certifications:
An AWS Solutions Architect cert is welcome, but this team is hiring for what you have designed and put into production, not what you have passed. Expect to walk through a real architecture you own.
