Communications Specialist

Job Summary:
CenterPoint Energy is looking for a Senior Communications Specialist to support internal and external communications, community engagement, and stakeholder outreach. The role will focus on communicating the company’s clean energy, natural gas decarbonization, and customer programs in Minnesota.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop communication strategies and key messages for internal and external audiences.
• Create web content, news releases, fact sheets, presentations, speeches, videos, emails, brochures, and social media content.
• Plan and support community, stakeholder, and public engagement events.
• Attend community meetings, neighborhood/HOA meetings, and other public events.
• Work with Regulatory, Government Affairs, Energy Sales, Marketing, and other teams to ensure consistent messaging.
• Lead communications related to clean energy, natural gas, decarbonization, and cleaner energy technologies.
• Support web content, social media, and digital communication initiatives.
• Develop notifications and communications for customers, public officials, community organizations, media, and other stakeholders.
• Support emergency response communications when needed.
• Track communication results and improve communication processes.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or related field.
• 3–5+ years of communications experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience developing and executing communication strategies.
• Strong stakeholder and community engagement experience.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong project and time-management skills.
• Ability to explain complex information clearly to different audiences.
• Self-starter who can work independently and collaborate across teams.

Preferred:

• Utility, natural gas, energy, or clean-energy industry experience.
• Experience working with regulatory documents or filings.
• Experience in a matrix organization.
• Social media, web content, and public/community relations experience.
• Experience with thought leadership content such as white papers, LinkedIn articles, or conference presentations.
