Description
We are looking for a Database Administrator to support the reliability, security, and performance of critical database environments in Houston, Texas. This role focuses on managing SQL-based systems, improving database efficiency, and ensuring data platforms remain stable for day-to-day business operations. The ideal candidate brings strong technical depth across Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, and MySQL, along with a proactive approach to optimization and issue resolution.
Responsibilities:
Administer and maintain database platforms to ensure consistent availability, security, and operational stability.
Monitor system health and investigate performance bottlenecks across Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, and MySQL environments.
Optimize queries, indexing strategies, and database configurations to improve response times and overall efficiency.
Implement backup, recovery, and disaster preparedness procedures to protect business-critical data.
Troubleshoot database incidents, identify root causes, and deliver timely resolutions to minimize service disruption.
Support database deployments, upgrades, and configuration changes while maintaining data integrity and system reliability.
Partner with application, infrastructure, and support teams to align database solutions with operational needs.
Maintain documentation for database architecture, maintenance activities, and support procedures.
Apply security best practices, including access management and compliance controls, across database environments.
Requirements
Hands-on experience administering Microsoft SQL Server in a production environment.
Working knowledge of Azure SQL Database and its core management and performance features.
Experience supporting MySQL databases, including routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
Strong understanding of Microsoft SQL, including writing and tuning queries.
Proven ability to perform database performance tuning and resolve efficiency issues.
Knowledge of backup, recovery, and disaster recovery practices for relational databases.
Ability to diagnose technical problems quickly and communicate solutions clearly.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple database priorities effectively.
