Job Overview:
At Regions, the Digital User Experience (UX) Engineer works collaboratively with a cross-functional Digital UX team, both remotely and on-site in Birmingham, AL, to create user-centered digital solutions that align customer needs with business goals. The UX Engineer plays a key role in creating experiences in the browser or application. This role involves a pragmatic and systems-thinking approach to front-end design, with a focus on creating inclusive experiences and clean, responsible code.

Responsibilities:
  • Write maintainable, scalable, and accessible HTML and CSS for User Interface (UI) components and page designs.
  • Collaborate with other designers to create working prototypes in the browser using HTML and CSS.
  • Contribute to testing, code governance, and collaboration via Git.
  • Assist in establishing standards for HTML and CSS conventions and CSS architecture.
  • Write documentation and teach designers and developers across the organization how to leverage front-end design.
  • Mentor junior staff and seek opportunities to support their growth.
  • Collaborate with partners to ensure the design system team delivers what is needed to make implementation teams successful.
  • Provide senior-level guidance in code reviews.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma/GED and 12 years of hands-on experience building websites and web applications, OR a bachelor's degree in Design, Computer Science, Information Sciences, Psychology, Human Factors, or Human-Computer Interaction and 8 years of hands-on experience building websites and web applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a collaborative team, listen effectively, respect others' perspectives, and offer and accept feedback openly.
  • Ability to establish meaningful relationships with cross-functional teams, including development and product management.
  • Systems thinking and proactive problem-solving approach to identifying common UI patterns and distilling them into highly repeatable components.
  • Experience with scalable CSS architecture and expertise in modern CSS layout techniques (e.g., flexbox, grid, feature queries) and preprocessors (e.g., Sass or Less).
  • Commitment to inclusive design and accessibility, with experience working within WCAG standards.
  • Ability to collaborate with designers and engage in self-directed problem-solving to design in the browser.
  • Pragmatic approach to working within existing tech stacks while staying informed about industry improvements.
  • Strong written, presentation, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working within Agile/Scrum/SAFe development methodologies.
  • Familiarity with design tools like Sketch and InVision.
  • Experience or familiarity with static site generators and UI testing techniques.
  • Familiarity with or interest in learning about Web Components and the Sketch Plugin API.
  • Experience with the Atlassian stack (Jira, BitBucket, Bamboo, and Artifactory).
  • Proficiency with JavaScript and experience with Node.js.
  • Experience guiding CSS framework/design system integration with various tech stacks, including JavaScript frameworks and MVC.
  • Expertise in designing systems and process structures for web and mobile solutions for enterprise platforms.
  • Experience in establishing CSS build tools and delivery infrastructure, and writing code that enables design system assets (e.g., design tokens, SCSS, CSS, Sketch files, documentation site) to be delivered to various development teams.
  • Experience in setting up and maintaining automated CI/CD workflows.
  • Experience with automating build processes and working with package managers.

Pay Range: $70 - $75/hr. W2
