About the OpportunityWe're looking for a skilled
Fiber Engineer to support a major
Strategic Fiber and Fiber System Improvement initiative. If you enjoy hands-on engineering, solving complex network challenges, and working closely with construction and field teams, this role gives you the chance to shape critical infrastructure that supports long-term system reliability and growth.
Why This Role MattersYou'll play a key part in designing, evaluating, and improving fiber systems across a large Outside Plant (OSP) environment. Your work will directly influence system performance, capital planning, and the successful delivery of high-impact projects.
What You'll Do- Lead and support engineering activities for strategic fiber expansion and system improvement projects.
- Analyze technical data, perform evaluations, conduct trend analyses, and support long-range technology assessments.
- Prepare engineering plans, designs, specifications, cost estimates, schedules, and supporting documentation.
- Produce and review engineering drawings, sketches, construction notes, work orders, purchase orders, and bid evaluations.
- Ensure all engineering work meets technical standards, codes, regulations, and cost-effectiveness goals.
- Collaborate with internal teams, customers, vendors, and contractors to ensure project objectives are met.
- Support capital project cost control, monitor work authorization charges, and recommend corrective actions when needed.
- Provide technical and field support, troubleshoot system issues, and assist in developing corrective action plans.
- Conduct periodic testing and analysis to minimize system or equipment failures.
Top Skills & Experience We're Looking ForMust-Haves- Fiber Engineering experience, ideally with strong OSP (Outside Plant) exposure.
- Experience with GIS software (ESRI preferred, but any GIS platform is acceptable).
- Some AutoCAD experience - highly preferred (used for engineering packages).
Nice-to-Haves- Experience with SCADA networks.
- Background working with construction crews and splicing contractors.
- Familiarity with fiber design standards, permitting, and field verification.
