Senior Product Designer, Design Systems

Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Product Designer, Design Systems to help define and evolve the foundational standards that power a suite of digital products. This role focuses on creating scalable, reusable design patterns, components, and interaction models that improve consistency, accessibility, and user experience across products and teams.

The ideal candidate combines strong systems thinking, exceptional product design skills, and a collaborative approach to working with designers, engineers, and product stakeholders. You'll help establish design standards, create reusable solutions, and ensure design intent is successfully carried through to implementation.

Key Responsibilities

Design System Strategy & Governance

• Drive the evolution of design system standards, patterns, and component libraries.
• Identify recurring user experience challenges and transform them into scalable solutions.
• Define what should be standardized across products versus what should remain product-specific.
• Contribute to design system governance, adoption strategies, and contribution models.

System Standards & Documentation

• Create and maintain design specifications, component documentation, usage guidelines, and interaction standards.
• Develop clear standards that support consistency across design and engineering teams.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on design principles and implementation requirements.

Interaction Design & Pattern Creation

• Design sophisticated workflows and user experiences across various states, edge cases, errors, and recovery scenarios.
• Establish reusable interaction patterns that improve usability and scalability.
• Ensure accessibility requirements are incorporated into all system solutions.

Prototyping & Validation

• Create prototypes to test complex interactions, behaviors, and user flows.
• Validate design concepts through collaboration, feedback, and iterative improvement.
• Work closely with engineering teams to ensure successful implementation of experiences.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with Product, Engineering, Research, and Design leaders to align on strategy and priorities.
• Advocate for design system adoption and best practices across the organization.
• Mentor and influence teams on systems-thinking and scalable design approaches.

Required Experience

• 5+ years of product design experience, including significant experience working with design systems or platform-level initiatives.
• Demonstrated success designing products used across multiple teams or product lines.
• Portfolio showcasing design system contributions and scalable solutions.

Required Qualifications (Top Must-Haves)

Must Haves

• Experience creating design system standards, components, patterns, or capabilities adopted across multiple teams or products.
• Experience designing complex user interactions, including edge cases, accessibility considerations, error states, and recovery flows.
• Experience translating design concepts into structured specifications, documentation, design tokens, or implementation-ready artifacts.

Additional Requirements

• Strong understanding of design systems, component-based design, and scalable UX principles.
• Experience working extensively with design tokens and system architecture.
• Proven ability to collaborate closely with engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle.
• Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience designing enterprise or B2B software products.
• Experience with AI-powered, intelligent, or automation-focused user experiences.
• Familiarity with modern design system tooling and governance practices.
• Understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive design principles.
• Experience supporting implementation through design documentation, specifications, and quality reviews.

Education & Portfolio Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end design system work, including problem definition, solution development, implementation, and adoption.
• Portfolio should clearly showcase systems thinking, design rationale, and cross-functional collaboration.
