StaffRight Associates is seeking a high-caliber Rotating Equipment Reliability Engineer to spearhead the mechanical integrity and operational efficiency of a major refining facility in the Martinez, CA area. This is a critical leadership role focused on eliminating systemic equipment failures, optimizing machinery lifecycles, and championing a culture of safety and environmental stewardship. You will serve as the primary technical authority for complex rotating systems, directly impacting the plant’s uptime and long-term strategic reliability goals.

Pay Rate: $88,000 - $155,000
Other Compensation: 15-22% Bonus

Preface

To maximize your impact and leverage the depth of your technical expertise, you should ideally be transitioning from or currently immersed in the Petroleum Refining, Petrochemical, or Large-scale Chemical Processing industries. These high-complexity sectors provide the rigorous environment necessary to master the nuances of high-energy rotating equipment, such as steam turbines and centrifugal compressors, while operating under the stringent safety and regulatory frameworks (like API and ASME standards) required for this role. Your experience in these capital-intensive fields ensures you possess the forensic troubleshooting skills and the Goal Zero safety mindset essential for driving reliability in a high-stakes production facility.

What You’ll Do

  • Champion a Goal Zero safety culture by identifying and mitigating mechanical risks to prevent primary containment losses and operational hazards.

  • Synthesize technical data and performance metrics to provide expert troubleshooting support for pumps, turbines, compressors, and power transmission components.

  • Architect comprehensive Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and risk assessments to isolate systemic vulnerabilities and eradicate recurring maintenance issues.

  • Drive the development of long-range reliability roadmaps, influencing capital project scopes and refinery turnaround strategies from inception through delivery.

  • Engineer bad actor resolution strategies, integrating health, safety, and maintainability into every design alternative and repair protocol.

  • Execute formal Management of Change (MOC) documentation and technical reviews for all machinery modifications within your assigned jurisdiction.

  • Oversee external vendor partnerships, providing rigorous technical specifications and quality oversight for off-site equipment overhauls.

  • Monitor machinery health through advanced vibration, hydraulic, and efficiency analyses to ensure continuous process safety and environmental compliance.

What You Bring

  • Technical Pedigree: A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Industry Expertise: At least 3–10 years of hands-on experience managing industrial machinery design and maintenance within a petrochemical or refinery environment.

  • Regulatory Command: Deep proficiency in navigating and applying API, ANSI, and ASME codes and standards.

  • Diagnostic Mastery: Proven success in performing RCFA and troubleshooting a diverse fleet of rotating assets, including steam turbines, centrifugal pumps, and lubrication systems.

  • Analytical Toolset: Experience utilizing sophisticated condition monitoring platforms (such as System 1 or similar) and performing complex vibration and hydraulic evaluations.

  • Operational Agility: A commitment to supporting high-impact events like turnarounds and participating in an on-call rotation to maintain plant stability.

  • Systems Knowledge: A foundational understanding of low-voltage applications and instrument design as they pertain to machinery protection and monitoring.
