Job Description:
Mid-Senior Linux Engineer - Onsite | Contract-to-Hire

A major technology services provider supporting a large county-wide enterprise environment is seeking a Mid-Senior Linux Engineer for a long-term contract-to-hire opportunity. This position plays a critical role in maintaining and advancing core infrastructure that supports essential public-sector operations. The environment is mature, stable, and highly collaborative, with long-standing program continuity.

This opening is a backfill for a senior Linux/AIX engineer who was foundational to ongoing platform and ERP initiatives.

AIX is strongly preffered.

Position Overview

The Linux Engineer will support a large enterprise environment with a heavy focus on Red Hat Enterprise Linux and automation. The role requires strong hands-on operational experience, deep troubleshooting skills, and the ability to support mission-critical systems. AIX experience is highly preferred, though Linux is the primary workload.

Work Model & Location
  • Onsite in Santa Ana, CA
  • Standard business hours with occasional after-hours maintenance
  • 6-month contract-to-hire
  • Long-term program stability (multi-year contract extension already in place)
Key Responsibilities
  • Administer and support enterprise Red Hat Linux environments across production and non-production systems
  • Perform monthly patching, system hardening, and compliance activities
  • Troubleshoot OS-level, application-level, and infrastructure-level issues
  • Manage privileged access integrations and security controls
  • Automate operational tasks using Ansible or similar tools
  • Support ERP-related infrastructure and other mission-critical platforms
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including network, storage, and application groups
  • Participate in on-call rotations and support high-availability environments
  • Contribute to documentation, runbooks, and operational standards
  • Provide AIX support where applicable (preferred but not required)
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of hands-on Linux engineering or administration experience
  • Strong experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux in large enterprise environments
  • Proficiency with:
    • System patching, hardening, and lifecycle management
    • Troubleshooting performance, networking, and OS-level issues
    • Privileged access tools and security integrations
  • Experience with Ansible (or similar automation tools) for operational automation
  • Ability to operate as an "in-the-trenches" engineer-hands-on, detail-oriented, and execution-focused
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Must have lived in the U.S. for 10+ years (background requirement)
Preferred Qualifications
  • AIX administration experience (LPARs, VIOS, storage integration, patching)
  • Experience supporting ERP or large enterprise application environments
  • Familiarity with virtualization platforms (VMware preferred)
  • Experience with monitoring, logging, and configuration management tools
  • Scripting experience (Bash, Python, or similar)
About the Environment
