Engineering Technician, Metals Batching Operations

Location: South Simpsonville, SC
Employment Type: (Temp-to-Hire)
Shift: First Shift

About the Role

As an Engineering Technician supporting our Metals Batching Operations team, you will serve as a critical link between Manufacturing Operators and Process Engineers, helping ensure safe, compliant, and efficient production processes. Working primarily on the manufacturing floor in a cleanroom environment, you will provide day-to-day technical support to operators, monitor adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs), identify process concerns, and communicate operational issues to Engineering teams.

This role supports chemical handling, metals batching, and chemical mixing processes used in manufacturing operations. You will work closely alongside first-shift operators, providing procedural guidance, monitoring process compliance, and assisting with troubleshooting while serving as the primary communication channel back to Engineering.

This position is dedicated exclusively to the Metals Batching team and is not a rotational or floating support role. The opportunity is open due to an internal promotion and offers strong potential for long-term career growth through the contract-to-hire pathway.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Manufacturing Operators and Engineering within the Metals Batching operation.
  • Work directly on the production floor in a cleanroom environment to support day-to-day manufacturing activities.
  • Monitor operator activities to ensure compliance with SOPs, process specifications, safety requirements, and quality standards.
  • Provide real-time support and guidance to operators regarding procedures and process-related questions.
  • Identify, document, and escalate manufacturing, process, equipment, quality, or safety concerns to Engineering.
  • Support troubleshooting and root-cause investigations for manufacturing and process-related issues.
  • Plan, execute, and document engineering tests, experiments, and validation activities as directed.
  • Collect, analyze, summarize, and report process and production data to Engineering and Operations leadership.
  • Operate production equipment as needed to support engineering and manufacturing objectives.
  • Assist with maintaining, revising, and updating SOPs, work instructions, process documentation, and technical reports.
  • Monitor process performance and report discrepancies from established specifications.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, efficiency, and process consistency.
  • Perform inspections using magnification equipment, microscopes, or other precision inspection tools as required.
  • Safely handle chemicals and potentially hazardous materials in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing, production, chemical processing, metals batching, chemical handling, chemical mixing, or related process manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of production floor operations and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow SOPs, process specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel and basic Microsoft Office skills.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively identify, communicate, and resolve issues.
  • Comfortable working closely with operators while effectively communicating with engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Chemical Technology, Process Technology, or a related technical field.
  • Experience supporting metals batching, chemical mixing, chemical handling, slurry preparation, or related manufacturing processes.
  • Previous experience as a Senior Operator, Lead Operator, Process Technician, Manufacturing Technician, Production Technician, or Engineering Technician.
  • Leadership experience involving training, mentoring, coaching, or directing production activities.
  • Experience working in a cleanroom or highly regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with process control, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Ideal Candidate Profile

We're particularly interested in candidates with experience from:
  • Chemical manufacturing companies
  • Specialty materials manufacturers
  • Metals processing operations
  • Industrial chemical mixing or batching facilities
  • Process manufacturing environments
  • Teams responsible for chemical handling, chemical blending, metals batching, or materials preparation

Successful candidates may come from backgrounds such as:
  • Senior Operator
  • Lead Operator
  • Process Technician
  • Manufacturing Technician
  • Production Technician
  • Engineering Technician

A former operator who has taken on informal leadership responsibilities and developed a strong understanding of production processes, SOP compliance, and operator support would be an excellent fit for this role.
