Description:
Software Engineer - Trade Surveillance

Location: Charlotte, NC (Hybrid - 3 days onsite per week at 300 S Brevard)
Employment Type: Contract (9 months with intent to extend and potential conversion)
Start Date: April 27, 2026 or ASAP

Overview

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer - Trade Surveillance to support the planning, implementation, and integration of a third-party Trade Surveillance platform across the US and EMEA regions. This role requires deep software engineering expertise, experience working with enterprise-scale financial systems, and strong knowledge of regulatory-driven technology solutions.

You will partner with global Engineering, Compliance, and vendor teams to deliver secure, scalable, and compliant surveillance solutions within an Agile delivery environment.
Responsibilities
  • Contribute to technology strategy, design, and delivery of a third-party Trade Surveillance platform
  • Lead and consult on complex, large-scale software engineering initiatives with broad impact
  • Design, build, and integrate enterprise-grade applications and services
  • Translate business and regulatory requirements into robust technical designs and solutions
  • Support both strategic platform initiatives and tactical system enhancements
  • Modernize and rationalize existing surveillance technology platforms
  • Collaborate with Compliance stakeholders and global technology teams across the US and EMEA
  • Participate in vendor management and work closely with vendor engineering teams (US and UK)
  • Ensure all development and integration work complies with:
    • Third-party risk management standards
    • Information security requirements
    • Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) policies
  • Operate effectively within an Agile/Scrum delivery model
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience or equivalent demonstrated through work, consulting, education, military, or training experience
  • Strong experience building enterprise-scale applications
  • Proficiency in object-oriented and/or functional programming languages such as Java, Python, or Scala
  • Experience designing and consuming APIs and integrating distributed systems
  • Broad experience delivering technology solutions within complex financial environments
  • Knowledge of capital markets, banking systems, compliance, and trade lifecycle concepts
  • Familiarity with international regulatory frameworks such as MAD/MAR
  • Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies
  • Experience working in secure, controlled enterprise environments
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Prior experience developing or supporting Trade Surveillance systems
  • Strong hands-on development experience with Python or Scala
  • Experience building regulatory-driven or compliance-related applications
  • Experience integrating and enhancing vendor-based platforms
  • Exposure to cloud platforms and cloud-hosted third-party solutions
  • Experience with test automation and testing frameworks (e.g., Selenium)
  • Knowledge of event-driven systems, messaging, or distributed architectures
  • DevOps or CI/CD pipeline experience
Work Environment
  • Hybrid schedule: 3 days onsite per week in Charlotte, NC
  • Global collaboration with teams across the US and EMEA
  • Agile delivery environment focused on secure, compliant, and scalable solutions
