Role Overview
The main function of this Software Engineer - Automation role is to design, build, and maintain automation pipelines that improve operational readiness, data validation, and engineering workflow efficiency. This role will focus on replacing manual, spreadsheet-driven, or ad hoc processes with reliable software-driven workflows that integrate data sources, apply validation logic, generate reports, and support human review where needed. The engineer will initially focus on deployment readiness and operational workflow automation, then expand into telemetry validation and data quality checks.
Key Responsibilities

- Gather and analyze requirements from engineering, operations, and program stakeholders; translate ambiguous manual processes into clear technical designs.
- Integrate data from internal systems, databases, work tracking tools, spreadsheets, and document repositories.
- Build software solutions that ingest, normalize, validate, and report on operational and telemetry-related data.
- Develop reusable validation rules, checks, and reporting modules that can scale across multiple workflows.
- Automate manual review processes while preserving appropriate human-in-the-loop approval gates.
- Create reliable scripts, services, or tools with clear logging, error handling, retries, and auditability.
- Prepare technical specifications, test plans, and implementation documentation.
- Modify and improve existing automation tools to meet new standards and requirements.
- Conduct unit testing, integration testing, and post-implementation validation.
- Troubleshoot issues across new and legacy systems to identify root causes and implement durable fixes.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure automation outputs are actionable and operationally usable.
Required Qualifications
Education: A bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, data engineering, or a related technical field is required.
Experience: 5-7 years of software engineering or automation engineering experience is preferred. Experience building backend tools, data pipelines, workflow automation, or internal engineering platforms is necessary. Candidates must have experience working with AI systems.
Technical Skills: Strong programming experience with Python, PowerShell, C#, or similar automation-friendly languages is required. A strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design is needed. Experience integrating with APIs, databases, work item systems, and files is essential. The ability to work with structured and semi-structured data such as SQL/KQL query results, spreadsheets, JSON, CSV, and logs is also required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cloud or enterprise data platforms.
- Familiarity with telemetry systems, operational monitoring, or industrial/IoT data workflows.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, or similar engineering lifecycle tools.
