Engineering Tech Consultant (Statewide Survey Crew)

This position operates and provides expert technical advice in the operation of specialized equipment for Location and Survey.

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus four years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR

Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance plus four years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR

Twenty-four semester hours in one of the following specialized fields: architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics; OR

A bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management or construction technology.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
  • Works with Location and Survey specific GPS Real Time Network (RTN), Real Time Kinematic (RTK) and Static Equipment.
  • Provides expert technical advice to the Surveyor Supervisor, DOTD Surveyor Administrator and the Location and Survey Automation, Photogrammetry, and LiDAR units.
  • Contacts property owners along project to advise them of the proposed survey activities and obtains permission to enter upon private property to conduct the survey.
  • Works with Surveyor Supervisor, Surveyor Manager, and survey crews to coordinate and schedule projects for obtaining topographic survey data.
  • Coordinates control project assignments with location survey party chiefs and field supervisors on projects requiring establishment of new horizontal and vertical control and verification of existing control.

Appointment Type: This position may be filled as a promotion or Detail to Special Duty and is only open to current permanent status classified DOTD employees.
