Role Summary:We are seeking a FinOps Consultant with hands-on experience in cloud cost management and deep familiarity with IBM Cloudability. The consultant will help the organization build and mature its FinOps practice, drive cost visibility and optimization across cloud environments, and partner with engineering, finance, and product teams to align cloud spending with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:

  • FinOps Strategy & Governance
  • Develop and implement a cloud FinOps strategy, playbooks, and governance model tailored to the organization.
  • Define policies for cost ownership, tagging, budget enforcement, and showback/chargeback.
  • Establish KPIs and reporting cadences to measure FinOps maturity and effectiveness.
  • Lead the design, deployment, configuration, and ongoing administration of IBM Cloudability (enablement of modules, connectors, and integrations).
  • Create dashboards, reports, and alerts in Cloudability for cost, usage, reservations/committed spend, and anomalous activity.
  • Cost Visibility & Reporting
  • Build and maintain clear, role-based reporting and dashboards (engineering, finance, leadership) using Cloudability and complementary BI tools.
  • Implement consistent tagging and resource naming standards; remediate untagged/uncategorized spend.
  • Provide executive-level summaries and detailed consumption breakdowns by application, team, environment, and business unit.
  • Optimization & Savings Programs
  • Identify and prioritize cost optimization opportunities: rightsizing, RI/savings plan / committed use recommendations, spot/preemptible usage, workload scheduling, storage tiering, licensing, and architectural changes.
  • Run Reserved Instance/Savings Plan procurement workflows and make purchase recommendations backed by Cloudability data.
  • Design and run initiatives (e.g., cost sprints, cost-aware architecture reviews) and measure realized savings.
  • Cross-functional Enablement & Training
  • Evangelize FinOps principles and best practices across engineering, DevOps, product, and finance teams.
  • Create and deliver training, playbooks, and self-service guides for teams to manage their own cloud spend.
  • Facilitate cost review meetings, optimization workshops, and post-implementation reviews.
  • Automation & Tooling
  • Automate cost-saving actions and workflows where possible (e.g., scheduled off/on for dev environments, automated rightsizing recommendations).
  • Integrate Cloudability outputs with CI/CD, ticketing, and governance tooling to enforce cost policies.
  • Analytics & Continuous Improvement
  • Use Cloudability and cloud provider data to perform root-cause analysis on spending anomalies and trends.
  • Establish a continuous improvement loop: measure, act, and refine FinOps processes and tooling.

Required Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience in cloud cost management, FinOps, cloud engineering, or cloud financial operations roles.
  • Demonstrable hands-on experience implementing and operating IBM Cloudability (formerly Apptio Cloudability) configuration, connectors, dashboards, cost modelling, reporting.
  • Strong understanding of cloud billing models and pricing (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform, IBM Cloud).
  • Practical experience with cost optimization techniques: rightsizing, committed-use planning, workload scheduling, storage lifecycle, and license management.
  • Experience collaborating with engineering, finance, and product teams to influence behavior and deliver cost outcomes.
  • Solid SQL skills and experience with BI/visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker) for custom reporting.
  • Familiarity with scripting/automation (Python, Bash, or similar) and integrating cost tooling with CI/CD and ticketing systems.
  • Excellent communication skills able to present technical and financial concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Desirable
  • FinOps Foundation certification (FinOps Certified Practitioner) or equivalent.
  • Certifications from cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) or IBM Cloud certifications.
  • Experience working with large-scale multi-cloud environments and hybrid cloud cost allocation.
  • Experience with chargeback/show back design and implementation.
  • Background in procurement or vendor management for cloud/managed services.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Cloud Formation) and observability tools.
