Scrum Master - Role Overview

The Scrum Master serves as a servant-leader and delivery facilitator for Agile teams, enabling them to deliver high-quality value with consistency and predictability. In this role, you will champion Agile principles, remove obstacles, cultivate a culture of continuous improvement, and ensure alignment with enterprise delivery standards. You will partner closely with Product and Engineering leaders to drive clarity, flow, and accountability across the team.
Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Delivery Enablement
  • Lead and facilitate all Agile ceremonies (Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Reviews, Retrospectives) to drive clarity, focus, and measurable outcomes.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the team's backlog, priorities, and value streams to support effective planning and execution.
  • Protect team capacity by managing scope changes, dependencies, and unplanned work.
  • Guide teams in effective work breakdown, ensuring all user stories meet Definition of Ready (DoR) and Definition of Done (DoD).
Coaching & Continuous Improvement
  • Coach Product Owners, Engineers, and team members on Agile practices, Scrum frameworks, and collaboration behaviors.
  • Create and maintain monthly coaching plans with measurable maturity indicators.
  • Drive continuous improvement using metrics, retrospectives, and targeted coaching interventions.
  • Provide real-time coaching to strengthen execution flow, quality, predictability, and team alignment.
Risk, Dependency & Impediment Management
  • Identify and surface impediments within 24 hours and maintain an active impediment backlog in Jira.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to resolve risks and cross-team dependencies within the sprint.
  • Ensure early escalation and transparent communication of delivery risks.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
  • Meet with Product and Engineering partners regularly (at least monthly) to review team maturity, delivery trends, and operational improvement opportunities.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership presence through timely communication, responding to feedback within 48 hours, and modeling calm, fact-based interactions during escalations.
  • Resolve team conflict within a sprint by leveraging facilitation best practices and reinforcing team agreements.
Tools & Reporting
  • Maintain expert proficiency in Jira, including dashboards, automations, and visualizations for cycle time, throughput, WIP, and rollover trends.
  • Use data-driven insights to guide continuous improvement and enhance delivery predictability.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and leadership presence.
  • Ability to think creatively, solve problems, and drive alignment across cross-functional teams.
  • Skilled in guiding Agile events and enabling effective team collaboration.

  • Background or training in education, coaching, or influence-based leadership.
