Randstad is seeking a versatile IT Field Engineer to join our team in support of a major transportation and logistics client across the DC and Philadelphia corridors. This role is a unique blend of systems administration and hands-on field engineering, where you will be responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of Windows-based Point of Sale (POS) systems. From imaging and SQL configuration in a lab environment to troubleshooting cellular connectivity aboard mobile units and at regional depots, you will serve as the technical backbone for specialized crew operations. If you are a proactive problem-solver who enjoys a mix of high-level configuration (SCCM/Intune) and physical, "boots-on-the-ground" technical support, this is an excellent opportunity to maintain critical infrastructure for a leader in the travel industry.

responsibilities:
- Systems Deployment: Execute full system imaging, Windows OS installations, BIOS/driver updates, and SQL Server configuration for specialized POS hardware.
- Endpoint Management: Utilize SCCM and Microsoft Intune to manage system updates, software deployments, and routine patching.
- Field Support: Travel as required to client labs, regional depots, and aboard mobile transit units to provide hands-on troubleshooting for tablets, peripherals, and mobile connectivity (Cellular/Wi-Fi).
- Technical Documentation: Author and maintain clear, step-by-step technical procedures and hardware manuals for the engineering team.
- Automation: Write and troubleshoot PowerShell scripts to streamline deployment tasks and automate routine maintenance.
- Physical Logistics: Manage equipment transport and installation, including the ability to carry up to 50 lbs of hardware across diverse transit environments.
qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma required; Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering preferred.
Technical Experience: 2+ years of experience building and supporting Windows-based systems, specifically within a Point-of-Sale (POS) or ruggedized mobile environment.
Modern Management Tools: Proven experience managing endpoints via SCCM and Intune.
Scripting Skills: Proficiency in PowerShell for system administration and automation.
Mobility: Must be willing and able to travel frequently to various regional hubs and work in a variety of environments (Labs, Depots, and onboard moving vehicles).
Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with field crew members and technical stakeholders.
