OverviewWe are seeking a highly experienced Senior Java Web and Database Developer to join a core web development team focused on developing, modernizing, and maintaining both internal and public-facing web applications. This role supports large-scale modernization initiatives, including front-end framework upgrades, database migrations, and cloud-native application deployments in AWS. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in an Agile/Scrum environment and has strong DevOps and cloud experience.
Responsibilities- Actively participate in team discussions, technical decision-making, and solution implementation
- Develop, support, modernize, and maintain web-based applications
- Migrate legacy applications and data to modern architectures and platforms
- Support migration of relational databases from legacy platforms to PostgreSQL using custom and commercial migration tools (e.g., AWS DMS)
- Design and develop containerized Spring Boot applications providing RESTful APIs
- Deploy and support applications running on AWS ECS
- Interpret and troubleshoot application and system logs using AWS CloudWatch
- Support CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and AWS deployment services
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional team members in an Agile/Scrum environment
Required Qualifications- Experience with modern web application development technologies, including:
- Java-based web APIs using Spring MVC, Spring Boot, Spring Security (OAuth2), and JPA
- Angular-based user interfaces
- Relational database design using Oracle and/or PostgreSQL
- Responsive UI design using Bootstrap 4 or higher
- Experience implementing API documentation using Swagger / OpenAPI
- Strong experience with Test Driven Development (TDD), emphasizing high code coverage and integration testing
- Experience designing and implementing relational databases (Oracle 12+ or PostgreSQL)
- Experience using database schema/versioning tools such as Liquibase or Flyway
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum methodologies, including:
- Sprint planning, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups
- Use of Atlassian tools such as Jira and Confluence
- Experience contributing to both new development efforts and enhancement of existing applications
- Experience using GitHub with a GitFlow pull request model
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Minimum of 5 years of professional Information Technology experience
- Hands-on experience with AWS services for web applications, including:
- Elastic Container Registry (ECR)
- Elastic Container Service (ECS)
- Simple Storage Service (S3)
- Application Load Balancer (ALB)
- CloudWatch
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with agentic or AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Copilot, Gemini, Claude)
- Prior experience leading or mentoring development teams
- Experience building and maintaining GitHub Actions workflows for automated CI/CD
- Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
- Experience with message- or event-driven architectures using AWS SNS and SQS
