AI-First Software Engineer - .NET / AWS / Payments

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client that is seeking an AI-First Software Engineer - .NET/AWS/Payments in Howell, NJ.

Overview:
We are partnering with a growing payments technology company seeking an AI-First Software Engineer to join its engineering organization. This is a hands-on software engineering position for someone who has strong traditional engineering fundamentals and has meaningfully evolved how they develop software through AI.

This is not a Machine Learning or Data Science position. We are looking for an experienced software engineer who uses AI and agentic development practices throughout the software development lifecycle, not simply someone who uses Copilot, Cursor, Claude or ChatGPT to generate code.

Essential Functions:
* Design, develop and maintain scalable applications using C#/.NET, AWS and SQL
* Work primarily on backend development while contributing across the full stack
* Use AI/agentic development practices throughout the engineering lifecycle
* Build and maintain effective context, instructions and workflows that allow AI agents to work effectively within complex codebases
* Use AI for development, code review, testing, troubleshooting and software quality
* Review and validate AI-generated code before production deployment
* Develop solutions supporting high-volume payment processing and merchant technology
* Participate in application design, architecture, code reviews and technical problem solving
* Collaborate with engineers across distributed teams

REQUIREMENTS:
* 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
* Strong hands-on C#/.NET development experience
* Experience developing applications in AWS
* Strong SQL and backend development fundamentals
* Demonstrated experience incorporating AI/agentic tools into a professional software engineering workflow beyond basic code generation
* Ability to explain how you provide AI agents with codebase context, standards and instructions
* Experience with concepts such as context/instruction files, reusable skills, evaluations or similar agentic development practices
* Experience reviewing, testing and validating AI-generated software
* Professional experience within payments, payment processing, fintech, banking or payment-integrated applications
* Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with distributed teams

Nice to Have:
* Payment gateway, processor, PayFac or merchant acquiring experience
* Experience with transaction processing or payment devices
* React experience. Angular or comparable modern frontend experience is also welcome
* Experience with AWS Lambda and cloud-native architectures

This is a growing payment technology firm! The engineering organization has already made significant progress adopting AI-first development practices and continues to evolve its SDLC around agentic engineering.

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
