Position Overview
The Information Technology department is seeking an experienced Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) to join the Application Services team. This role will support enterprise database environments and contribute to database strategy, governance, and operational excellence.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience administering Oracle databases across Linux and Windows environments, along with the ability to support high-availability systems, disaster recovery processes, and enterprise production environments. This position also includes leadership responsibilities, including managing service requests, improving database processes, and collaborating with development and infrastructure teams.
This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with a strong potential for long-term employment.
Key Responsibilities
Database Administration & Support
- Install, configure, and maintain Oracle database software across multiple platforms.
- Manage and support enterprise Oracle database environments used by critical business systems.
- Perform database modifications, schema migrations, and system updates.
- Maintain and enforce database security standards.
Performance & Capacity Management
- Conduct database performance monitoring and tuning.
- Perform capacity planning to ensure optimal system performance and scalability.
- Maintain highly available production database environments.
Backup, Recovery & High Availability
- Design and maintain backup and recovery procedures.
- Support disaster recovery planning and implementation.
- Ensure reliability and availability of critical production databases.
Process Improvement & Standards
- Develop and improve database standards, processes, and operational procedures.
- Research and implement industry best practices for database management.
- Identify opportunities for operational excellence and automation within the DBA team.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Work closely with application developers, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders.
- Manage service requests and support database activities across multiple projects.
- Assist with planning long-term database strategies and project roadmaps.
Production Support
- Provide off-hours support for production incidents, database upgrades, migrations, and patching.
- Respond to critical system issues and corporate emergencies when required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- 5+ years of experience administering Oracle databases
- Experience managing Oracle databases in Linux and/or Windows environments
- Strong experience with SQL development and database scripting
- Experience with Perl, Shell scripting, or Microsoft VBS scripting
- Experience supporting high-availability environments and disaster recovery processes
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager
- Experience with database design, schema design, and data modeling
- Experience with automating DBA tasks
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale production systems
- Experience designing and implementing process improvements
Additional Requirements
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- Must be able to travel within the service territory as required
