Role Overview
This position supports engineering activities for renewable energy and transmission projects. The selected candidate will be responsible for power system analysis, steady-state and dynamic modeling, and generation and transmission planning for generation, transmission, and substation projects. The role involves performing engineering assignments ranging from limited scope to advanced projects requiring expertise in multiple disciplines, with a focus on utility-scale solar, BESS, and power plant operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and validate PSSE and PSCAD models for transmission line and generation projects.
- Perform and review steady-state, dynamic, short circuit, and other power system analyses for transmission lines and renewable facilities.
- Conduct and review transmission line design studies in PSCAD, including line energization, switching overvoltage study, shunt reactor sizing, and auto-reclosing.
- Provide technical expertise to all aspects of interconnection processes and operational requirements.
- Work with ISOs, utilities, and regulatory agencies to manage interconnection processes.
- Ensure compliance with regional modeling requirements for new and existing projects.
- Plan, organize, and manage engineering projects, balancing cost, reliability, and performance.
- Support detailed technical assessments, engineering design reviews, and compliance verifications.
- Develop software tools to enhance system reliability and organizational efficiency.
- Ensure the implementation of standards, policies, and training.
Required Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a related field is required.
Experience: 11 to 15 years of experience leading engineering teams and providing oversight for major energy infrastructure projects is required. Knowledge of interconnection procedures as defined by ISOs, utilities, and Transmission Operators across the U.S. is also necessary.
Technical Skills: Experience with power system analysis tools including PSS/E, PSCAD, Aspen, TSAT, and GE PSLF software is required. A strong understanding of electrical engineering concepts such as power flow, stability, voltage regulation, and reactive support is essential.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Professional Engineering (PE) certification is preferred.
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills are preferred.
Compensation & Benefits
The pay range for this position is $55.00 per hour to $60.61 per hour. Please note that a worker furlough may apply to this assignment. Driving will be required for this position; a valid, non-restricted driver's license must be maintained.
