Role: Backend Software Engineer

REMOTE

Location & Travel Requirements: Requires extensive travel, estimated at approximately 80% of working time. Location is unknown at the moment and would be based on clients requirements and must work from office Monday to Thursday each week (Travel and accommodation costs will be taken care by Persistent)

About the Role

We are looking for highly skilled Backend Software Engineers to join our team and help build and deploy production-grade AI, analytics, and software solutions for global clients. In this role, you will work closely with product managers, data scientists, architects, and fellow engineers to transform complex business challenges into scalable, secure, and high-performing backend systems.

The ideal candidate is passionate about software engineering best practices, enjoys collaborative product development, and has hands-on experience developing cloud-native applications using modern backend technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs for AI, analytics, and enterprise software solutions.
• Translate complex business requirements into robust and maintainable technical solutions.
• Build secure, reliable, and high-performance applications that can operate at production scale.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, data scientists, architects, and frontend engineers.
• Participate actively in architecture discussions and contribute to core product decisions.
• Write clean, testable, and well-documented code following engineering best practices.
• Perform code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers.
• Troubleshoot, optimize, and enhance existing applications and services.
• Implement CI/CD practices and support cloud deployment strategies.
• Contribute to agile development processes, sprint planning, and iterative product delivery.
• Support paired programming, knowledge sharing, and engineering excellence initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in backend software development.
• Strong programming experience in Python.
• Hands-on experience building RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Experience with backend frameworks such as:
• Django
• Flask
• Strong knowledge of relational databases:
• MySQL
• PostgreSQL
• Experience with containerization technologies:
• Docker
• Kubernetes
• Experience working with cloud platforms:
• AWS and/or Azure
• Proficiency in software engineering best practices including:
• Unit testing
• Code reviews
• Version control (Git)
• Design patterns
• Secure coding standards
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with Databricks and modern data engineering ecosystems.
• Exposure to AI/ML platforms and production AI deployments.
• Experience designing event-driven or distributed systems.
• Knowledge of observability, monitoring, and logging frameworks.
• Understanding of DevOps principles, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
• Experience building multi-tenant enterprise applications.
