About the Opportunity

Our client is a leading provider of water, waste, and energy management solutions, supporting commercial, industrial, healthcare, higher education, and municipal customers across North America.

They are seeking a Lead Systems Integration Engineer to join their growing team. This role will serve as the technical leader for integration initiatives, driving design, development, and operational excellence across a modern MuleSoft-based integration landscape.

Position Overview

The Lead Systems Integration Engineer is responsible for project intake, solution design, development, and ongoing operations for enterprise integration solutions-primarily leveraging MuleSoft CloudHub and on-premise MuleSoft platforms. This role requires deep hands-on integration engineering experience, strong API design skills, and the ability to guide junior developers while collaborating across technical and business teams.

This is a highly visible role within a dynamic, cross-functional environment, offering significant opportunities for technical leadership and career growth.

Key Responsibilities
Integration Project Intake
  • Translate high-level business requirements into technical estimates and solution approaches
  • Identify opportunities for API reuse and strategic API investments
Integration Design & Development
  • Design, develop, and maintain integrations using MuleSoft, MFT, and related platforms
  • Build and reuse APIs using RAML or OpenAPI specifications
  • Lead data mapping and transformation efforts across multiple formats (JSON, XML, CSV, YAML)
  • Configure and deploy CI/CD pipelines
  • Develop reusable design patterns and automated test suites (unit, performance, load)
  • Implement secure integration practices (OAuth, SSH, encryption)
  • Document designs, mappings, and SDLC artifacts
  • Support SIT and perform hands-on coding and unit testing
  • Mentor and support junior developers
Integration Operations
  • Manage incidents and problems for production integrations
  • Enhance logging, alerting, dashboards, and reconciliation reporting
  • Support upgrades and improvements to the on-prem MuleSoft platform
  • Maintain visualization dashboards for KPIs and incident response
Center for Enablement (C4E)
  • Contribute to integration frameworks, schedulers, alerting, and visualization tools
  • Improve CI/CD processes using GitLab
  • Govern design patterns, documentation, runbooks, and data mappings
  • Advance API and data security best practices
  • Refine SDLC processes and integration governance
Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • 5+ years in integration development, software engineering, or data engineering
  • 3+ years of hands-on MuleSoft integration experience (CloudHub + on-prem)
Technical Skills
  • Strong experience with HTTP/S, JDBC, JMS, REST, SOAP
  • Proficiency with JSON, XML, CSV, YAML, and data mapping
  • Experience designing SOAP and REST services
  • Knowledge of APIs, ESB, SOA, and workflow frameworks
  • Expertise in MuleSoft CloudHub and on-prem deployment models
  • CI/CD and source control experience (GitLab preferred)
  • Experience with real-time, near real-time, pub/sub, async, event-driven, batch, and API integrations
  • Strong understanding of OAuth, SSH, encryption, and secure integration practices
  • SQL and relational database experience
  • Agile/Scrum experience
  • Test-driven development experience
Certifications

Required:
  • MuleSoft Certified Developer

Preferred:
  • MuleSoft Certified Architect
  • AWS Solutions Architect
  • Agile/Scrum or Kanban training
