We are seeking a Solutions Engineer for a Data Engineering group focused on building and maintaining robust database-centric data pipelines, solutions, and analytics platforms. This role involves developing and maintaining solutions using Oracle, PL/SQL, Vertica, and Unix/Python automation, with workload scheduling orchestrated through Autosys. The position ensures end-to-end data integrity, reliability, and performance across traditional database environments.
Work Environment
The role requires a hybrid schedule with a minimum of three days per week on-site. The position is a potential contract-to-hire opportunity. The team supports User Acceptance Testing (UAT), creates training materials, and collaborates with adjacent technology teams to manage dependencies and ensure software stability and data quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop an understanding of stakeholder needs and translate them into scalable database-based technical solutions.
- Analyze existing business processes and design Oracle-centric optimizations, automation, and workflow improvements.
- Gather and document functional, non-functional, and technical requirements.
- Analyze functional and data requirements to understand data storage, transformation, and exposure within Vertica/Oracle.
- Assist users and development teams with application testing, data validation, and troubleshooting.
- Identify, document, and troubleshoot application and database-related issues.
- Document end-to-end processes, database procedures, workflow logic, and operational runbooks.
- Perform logical and physical data modeling, including schema design in Oracle.
- Conduct in-depth data analysis, profiling, and identification of data quality issues.
- Support story refinement, requirement elaboration, and effort estimation in Agile processes.
- Present the team's work to business partners and lead team members through technical complexities.
Required Qualifications
Experience: 10+ years of experience with relational and non-relational databases, with a heavy focus on Oracle SQL and PL/SQL. 10+ years of professional experience in SQL/PLSQL development, including packages, functions, procedures, triggers, and bulk processing.
Technical Skills: Strong hands-on experience developing and supporting Unix shell scripts. Experience designing and implementing Oracle-driven data integration pipelines using SQL, PL/SQL, and Unix shell scripting. Experience automating Oracle processes using job schedulers (Autosys preferred). Hands-on experience developing complex Oracle procedures, functions, and PL/SQL packages. Ability to conduct performance tuning using explain plans, indexing strategies, and SQL optimization best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Agile tools such as Jira.
- An understanding of dimensional modeling, star/snowflake schemas, facts, and dimensions.
- Experience with ETL tool testing.
- Comfort using AI tools like Github Copilot to accelerate development.
Compensation & Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70.00 to $73.68 per hour. A comprehensive benefits package is available to eligible employees.
