Embedded Systems Engineer | Norton Shores, MI

Salary Range: $81,000 - $126,000 depending on experience

The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement embedded software for manufacturing equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and debug existing embedded systems in production environments.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers to integrate software with new and existing devices.
  • Develop and maintain firmware for industrial control systems.
  • Optimize embedded code for performance, reliability, and resource utilization.
  • Participate in the full product lifecycle, from concept to deployment and maintenance.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in embedded software development for manufacturing environments.
  • Expertise in C/C++ programming for microcontroller-based systems (e.g., ARM Cortex-M, PIC, AVR).
  • Strong understanding of real-time operating systems (RTOS) like FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or similar.
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, EtherCAT, PROFINET, CAN).
  • Proven ability to debug and test hardware/software interfaces using tools like oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and in-circuit debuggers.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, EtherCAT, PROFINET).
  • Familiarity with functional safety standards (e.g., ISO 13849, IEC 61508).
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000).
  • Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) in a manufacturing context.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices for industrial control systems.
