Role Overview:We are seeking a highly motivated Data Collection Specialist to join our growing user research and data collection team. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, technically capable, comfortable working with people, and adaptable in fast-moving environments. The Data Collection Specialist will support both field-based and lab or simulated data collection efforts, working closely with research and engineering teams to deliver high-quality results and continuously improve data collection processes.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage end-to-end data collection processes, including securing testing materials, handling logistics, training participants, and monitoring data collection activities
- Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot data collection hardware and software in both field and lab or simulated environments
- Work directly with participants during data collection sessions, ensuring a positive and professional experience
- Provide daily status updates and report-outs on collection activities, issues, and progress
- Partner closely with engineering and research teams to improve software usability, tooling, and the participant experience
- Own defined projects focused on improving data collection workflows, tools, or documentation
- Identify process improvement opportunities and contribute ideas to help evolve and scale data collection operations
Top Must-Have Qualifications:- 2-3 years of experience in natural and/or simulated data collection environments (field collection, lab-based, or emulated scenarios)
- Experience with data collection, moderation, or participant-based research activities
- Familiarity with Linux or Ubuntu environments, including command-line usage and basic system configuration
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with participants, engineers, and researchers
- Proven ability to diagnose and resolve issues in real time during live collection efforts
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
Basic Qualifications:- 2-3+ years of relevant professional experience
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion when handling confidential information
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction while managing multiple priorities
- Willingness to roll up your sleeves, support several projects simultaneously, and adapt to changing priorities
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to deliver high-quality work under tight timelines
Preferred Qualifications:- Technical background with hands-on experience troubleshooting hardware and software
- End-to-end, hands-on experience with data collection, including recruiting, moderation, analysis, and reporting
- Experience supporting consumer electronics research or user research programs
- Background in customer service or participant-facing roles
- Experience working in fast-paced, iterative research or engineering environments
- Comfort and proficiency with gamin controller, joysticks, or similar real time navigation tools, with the ability to apply those skills in an operational environment
