Job DescriptionPosition OverviewThe Snowflake Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for ensuring the performance, security, reliability, and scalability of the Snowflake data platform. This role supports cross-functional data initiatives, maintains high operational standards, and contributes to continuous improvement across the data ecosystem.
Key ResponsibilitiesPerformance & Optimization- Analyze and optimize complex SQL queries and workloads to improve efficiency and manage compute costs.
- Monitor and tune Snowflake virtual warehouses to maintain optimal performance.
- Apply best practices for data modeling, partitioning, clustering, and indexing.
Security & Governance- Manage user roles, access controls, and data masking policies to support compliance with internal and external security requirements.
- Partner with Information Security and compliance teams to implement and uphold data governance standards.
- Audit and monitor data access and usage patterns to identify anomalies and ensure data protection.
Database Hygiene & Maintenance- Maintain organized and well-structured schemas, tables, and views across all environments.
- Implement automated routines for data lifecycle management, including purging, archiving, and metadata upkeep.
- Ensure consistency, reliability, and accuracy of data pipelines and integrations with Snowflake.
Collaboration & Leadership- Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to support data-driven initiatives.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior DBAs and data team members.
- Stay informed about Snowflake enhancements, new features, and industry trends to strengthen platform capabilities.
Qualifications- Proven experience as a Snowflake DBA or in a similar role managing cloud-based data platforms.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and performance tuning methodologies.
- Deep understanding of Snowflake architecture, including virtual warehouses, storage layers, and caching.
- Experience with data security frameworks and compliance standards.
- Familiarity with ETL/ELT tools and data integration frameworks.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
Preferred Skills- SnowPro Certification (Core or Advanced).
- Experience with automation tools such as dbt or Terraform.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) and their integration with Snowflake.
- Scripting experience in Python or Shell for administrative or automation tasks.
