DevOps Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce is looking for a hands-on DevOps Engineer to support a critical automation initiative focused on reducing reliance on a third-party IT operations provider. This role will play a key part in identifying DevOps gaps, building scalable automation, and driving the future-state orchestration strategy across both on-prem and cloud environments. This is a highly autonomous role - the right candidate will be able to take documented requirements and execute with minimal oversight.

Key Responsibilities:
* Design, build, and maintain automation solutions to streamline IT and application operations

Develop and manage AWS Systems Manager (SSM) automation, including:
* Writing and maintaining SSM Automation Documents (YAML)
* Orchestrating scripts and workflows across environments
* Scheduling automation to run on a recurring basis (e.g., weekly)

Expand automation beyond current scope, including:
* OS patching (already in place for core applications)
* Future-state database patching automation

* Create and maintain Lambda functions, preferably using Python
* Build and support GitLab pipelines
* Work across Windows and Linux servers, both on-prem and in the cloud
* Collaborate closely with application teams to understand automation needs
* Document automation workflows, including application start/stop procedures
* Support emerging initiatives around DevOps AI agents later this year

REQUIREMENTS:
* Proven experience in DevOps automation roles

Strong scripting experience in:
* Bash
* Windows PowerShell
* Python

* Hands-on experience with AWS Systems Manager
* Experience writing YAML-based automation/orchestration documents
* Experience working across hybrid environments (on-prem + cloud)
* Comfortable operating independently with minimal hand-holding
* Strong communication skills and ability to provide clear project visibility and updates

Nice to Have:
* Experience with Datadog or similar monitoring/observability tools
* Experience with DevOps AI agents or AI-driven automation
* Background supporting enterprise-scale automation initiatives

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
