Role Overview
  • Position: Maintenance Planner
  • Duration: 6+ Months Contract
  • Location: Waterloo, IA / Onsite
  • Shift: 1st shift position (7:00 am to 3:30 pm)


Position Summary

The Maintenance Planner is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating corrective and preventive maintenance activities for manufacturing equipment, facilities, and building systems. This role ensures maintenance work is prioritized appropriately; resources are effectively allocated, and materials and services are available to support operational efficiency and equipment reliability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive and review maintenance requests from various departments across the facility.
  • Prioritize, plan, schedule, and assign maintenance work to maintenance personnel with varying skill levels, including both skilled trades and general maintenance staff.
  • Coordinate corrective maintenance and preventative maintenance activities for production equipment, machinery, building infrastructure, and facility systems.
  • Provide technical support to maintenance personnel by obtaining and reviewing equipment documentation, drawings, procedures, parts information, and tooling requirements.
  • Research and identify vendors and service providers for maintenance-related materials, parts, and external services.
  • Obtain quotations and generate purchase orders for repair parts, spare components, materials, and contracted services as required.
  • Monitor maintenance inventory usage and stock levels to ensure material availability while supporting inventory and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Assist in developing, maintaining, and improving preventive maintenance programs to maximize equipment uptime and operational efficiency.
  • Prepare and generate maintenance reports, schedules, work orders, and related documentation.
  • Provide day-to-day work direction to maintenance personnel and assist with supervisory responsibilities when required.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and other departments on projects related to facility improvements, equipment reliability, and maintenance initiatives.
  • Support compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and operational standards and regulations.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts focused on equipment performance, maintenance effectiveness, and facility operations.

Qualifications
  • Experience in maintenance planning, maintenance coordination, facilities maintenance, manufacturing operations, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, manuals, and equipment documentation.
  • Experience sourcing maintenance materials, spare parts, and services.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and scheduling skills.
  • Proficiency with maintenance management systems, inventory tracking systems, and standard business software.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
