Role Overview
A senior Cloud Engineer is required for a contract to stabilize, optimize, and prepare an existing Azure environment for migration to AWS. This role combines assessment, cost optimization, and execution, operating in close coordination with internal teams and external assessment efforts. The approximate duration is 6-7 months.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform a deep assessment of the Azure environment, including compute, storage, logging, and database workloads.
- Identify and decommission unused or low-value resources.
- Drive cost optimization initiatives, including SQL instance consolidation, log retention reduction, and capacity right-sizing.
- Improve cost attribution and transparency through tagging and naming policy enforcement.
- Support billing analysis and cost governance improvements.
- Partner with external assessments while independently validating findings and executing remediation work.
- Prepare workloads for AWS migration, focusing on architecture cleanup and readiness.
- Provide recommendations on migration strategy, with final decisions retained by leadership.
Required Qualifications
Experience: Senior-level Azure experience with strong troubleshooting instincts. Demonstrated success in cloud cost optimization and billing analysis. Experience preparing Azure environments for AWS migration or cross-cloud transitions is required. Must have the ability to assess under-documented environments with limited internal expertise.
Technical Skills: Strong communication skills and ability to work with both internal teams and external partners.
Compensation & Benefits
The anticipated pay range for this position is $80.00 per hour. Please note that the final pay rate will be determined by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience and qualifications.
