Summary

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client in Sterling, VA that is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Technical Operations Engineer to support the critical infrastructure of a data center environment. This role requires a strong foundation in mechanical, electrical, and emergency systems, along with the ability to manage documentation and respond to alerts in real time.

Mechanical Systems:
* Operate and maintain HVAC systems, including air handling units and cooling towers
* Perform preventive maintenance on pumps, fans, and fluid transfer systems
* Understand refrigeration cycles and evaporative cooling methods
* Conduct basic plumbing and piping inspections

Electrical Systems:
* Manage three-phase power distribution and UPS operations
* Operate switchgear and circuit breakers
* Follow electrical safety protocols including lock-out/tag-out procedures
* Read and interpret electrical schematics and understand basic PLC functions

Critical Systems Monitoring:
* Utilize Building Management Systems (BMS) and environmental monitoring tools
* Respond to alerts and manage data logging/trending for shift turnovers
* Support emergency systems including generators, ATS, and critical load management

Documentation & Compliance:
* Maintain accurate work orders, preventive maintenance schedules, and equipment history
* Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and SOPs

Technical Tools & Software:
* Use diagnostic tools such as multimeters and thermal imaging devices
* Operate building automation and maintenance management software

REQUIREMENTS:
* Technical or trade school degree preferred
* Certifications in HVAC or electrical systems are a plus
* 1-5 years of experience in facility maintenance; data center experience preferred
* Background in emergency response is advantageous
* Demonstrate basic networking knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
