Software Engineer (Contingent Resource) - Phoenix, AZ
About the Role

In this contingent engineering role, you will contribute to large-scale, complex software initiatives that require deep technical expertise and strategic decision-making. You'll partner with cross-functional teams to evaluate multi-dimensional engineering challenges, define scalable solutions, and influence technical direction across projects. This role requires strong analytical abilities, a solid understanding of engineering best practices, and a proven ability to navigate ambiguity in high-impact environments.
Responsibilities
  • Consult on complex, large-scale software engineering initiatives with broad organizational impact.
  • Analyze and evaluate multifaceted technical challenges, including those involving unprecedented or intangible factors.
  • Design, develop, and optimize backend services and data-driven architectures.
  • Drive resolution of highly complex technical issues while ensuring alignment with organizational policies, compliance requirements, and delivery commitments.
  • Partner closely with internal client teams to understand requirements, shape technical strategies, and guide implementation.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in Software Engineering, or equivalent combination of professional experience, training, military service, or education.
  • 4+ years of experience in software development using modern frameworks and tooling.
  • 4+ years of professional Java development, including strong proficiency with Spring / Spring Boot.
  • 2+ years of backend or data-focused Python development.
  • Strong understanding of Reactive Programming (e.g., WebFlux).
  • Hands-on experience designing and building event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka.
  • Experience with Flink for real-time stream processing or data pipeline development.
  • Proficiency with both MongoDB (NoSQL) and Oracle (RDBMS).
  • 2+ years of experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience with cloud technologies (e.g., Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Azure).
  • Exposure to Large Language Models (LLMs), agentic system design, and prompt engineering.
  • Familiarity with agentic frameworks such as ADK, Playbook, or similar toolkits.
