Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe DevOps Architect to lead and drive DevOps transformation initiatives within large-scale IBM mainframe environments. This role focuses on enabling CI/CD pipelines, modern DevOps practices, and seamless integration between traditional mainframe systems and distributed/cloud platforms. The ideal candidate brings deep mainframe expertise combined with modern DevOps architecture and leadership capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and implement enterprise-level DevOps strategy for mainframe applications
• Design, build, and maintain end-to-end CI/CD pipelines for COBOL, PL/I, JCL, and DB2-based systems
• Integrate mainframe development workflows with distributed DevOps tools and practices
• Automate build, test, deployment, and release processes
• Collaborate with development, QA, infrastructure, and operations teams to streamline delivery
• Establish best practices for version control, branching strategies, code quality, and release management
• Enable shift-left testing, continuous integration, and automated testing
• Drive DevOps culture adoption across mainframe teams
• Monitor, optimize, and troubleshoot pipeline performance and reliability
• Ensure compliance with security, governance, and regulatory standards
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership

Required Skills & Qualifications

<>Core Mainframe Skills

• Strong hands-on experience with COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS, VSAM
• Deep understanding of IBM z/OS environments

<>DevOps & Automation

• Proven hands-on experience with:
  • IBM Dependency Based Build (DBB)
  • IBM Developer for z/OS (IDz)
  • IBM Developer for z/OS Debugger (IDD)
  • Jenkins
• Expertise in building CI/CD pipelines for mainframe applications
• Strong scripting skills in Groovy, Shell, and Python

<>Version Control & Integration

• Experience with Git-based repositories (GitHub, Bitbucket, GitLab)
• Knowledge of branching strategies and release workflows
• Integration of mainframe development with enterprise DevOps ecosystems

<>Testing & Quality

• Experience with automated testing tools for mainframe applications
• Integration of code quality and static analysis tools

• Experience with Endevor, Changeman, ISPW
• Knowledge of z/OS Connect and API enablement
• Exposure to Hybrid Cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform)
• Experience with mainframe modernization initiatives
• Familiarity with containerization and Kubernetes concepts
• Knowledge of Agile, Scrum, or SAFe methodologies
