This role requires deep expertise in Palo Alto and/or Fortinet firewalls, strong routing and network protocol knowledge, and the ability to evaluate multi-factor security engineering challenges. The engineer will analyze complex network security issues, propose solutions, implement firewall configurations, support deployment efforts, and collaborate closely with security and infrastructure teams. This position requires hands-on engineering ability - not policy administration - and the capacity to support long-term, large-scale network security strategies.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities: Engineer and implement firewall changes across Palo Alto and/or Fortinet technologies
Troubleshoot complex network security issues across large enterprise environments
Analyze routing, protocols, NAT, ACLs, VPN configurations, and segmentation requirements
Build, test, and deploy firewall configurations in production and non-production environments
Evaluate and resolve escalated firewall, routing, or connectivity issues
Contribute to engineering design reviews for new applications and network architectures
Perform packet captures, log analysis, and traffic flow troubleshooting
Support automation and scripting efforts to reduce manual firewall operations
Collaborate with networking, cloud, security ops, and application teams
Ensure compliance with security standards, policies, and architecture guidelines
Participate in after-hours work as needed for deployments or critical issues
