Summary

Position Description

Build products used in millions of buildings worldwide.

Legrand Electrical Wiring Systems is looking for a Mechanical Product Engineer to help design the next generation of electrical infrastructure used in homes, hospitals, data centers, and commercial buildings across North America.

As a Mechanical Product Engineer, you will develop high-volume electromechanical products from concept through production. You will work closely with product management, electrical engineering, manufacturing, tooling, and suppliers to create solutions that are innovative, manufacturable, and built to perform at scale.

If you enjoy solving complex mechanical problems, developing new product concepts, and seeing your designs move from prototype to high-volume production, this role offers the opportunity to do exactly that.

What You'll Do
  • Champion new product development

Drive the mechanical design of new electrical wiring devices from concept through production release. Your work will directly shape products installed in millions of buildings.
  • Translate customer needs into real products

Work closely with Product Line Managers to convert customer insights, market trends, and code requirements into clear product specifications and engineering solutions.
  • Design innovative electromechanical systems

Create sketches, CAD models, and prototypes to explore design approaches and refine them into production-ready products using SolidWorks and modern engineering tools.
  • Integrate electronics and connected technologies

Collaborate with electrical and software engineers to integrate PCBs, electrical systems, and IoT-enabled functionality into mechanical product designs.
  • Engineer for high-volume manufacturing

Partner with advanced manufacturing teams, tooling engineers, and suppliers to optimize designs for cost, quality, and large-scale production.
  • Validate performance and reliability

Advance designs through modeling, prototyping, testing, pilot builds, and design validation to ensure products meet performance expectations and safety requirements.
  • Deliver production-ready documentation

Create and maintain detailed engineering documentation including drawings, BOMs, specifications, validation plans, and quality requirements.
  • Ensure regulatory and safety compliance

Design products to meet UL requirements and other relevant standards while supporting certification testing and regulatory approval.
  • Drive innovation

Identify opportunities for patentable technologies and collaborate with Legrand's intellectual property team to protect new ideas.
  • Contribute to a strong engineering culture

Share knowledge, mentor engineers, and collaborate across teams to continuously improve product development practices.

What Makes This Role Unique
  • Ownership of Design

You will take products from idea to production, with real influence on how they are engineered and manufactured.
  • Massive Product Scale

Legrand products are installed in millions of buildings worldwide, giving your work real impact.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Engineering

Work across mechanical design, electronics integration, manufacturing, tooling, and global supply chains.
  • Innovation Opportunities

Engineers are encouraged to pursue new ideas and contribute to patentable innovations.
  • Sustainability Focus

Legrand is committed to environmentally responsible design, including Eco-Design and ISO 14001 initiatives.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME)
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical or electromechanical product development or 2+ years in a related industry
  • Experience with injection molded plastics, stamped metal components, and high-volume manufacturing
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD tools, preferably SolidWorks
  • Ability to solve thermal and structural problems using CAE tools (FEA, CFD).
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills and be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Effective listener, able to maintain focus, extract necessary information and validate understanding of the information
  • Strong computer skills, proficient with word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software, e-mail, and meeting management software. Ability to use internet and web-based resources efficiently and effectively

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Experience designing products that incorporate:
  • Understanding of UL standards and certification processes.
  • Experience collaborating with electrical and software engineers on electromechanical products is strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, close attention to detail and be able to effectively handle multiple priorities.

Personal Attributes

Successful candidates tend to be:
  • Curious and driven to solve complex engineering problems
  • Hands-on with prototyping and testing
  • Comfortable working across disciplines and functions
  • Strong communicators who can align teams around technical decisions
  • Passionate about turning ideas into real products

Why Engineers Choose Legrand

At Legrand, engineers don't just support products - they build them.

You'll work on real products, solve real problems, and see your ideas move from concept to large-scale production in markets that power homes, workplaces, and critical infrastructure.

Salary Range
  • $85,500 - $115,000
