Summary

Fiber Networks Specialist (Level IIII)

Contract Length: 2-Year Assignment
Location: Remote (Candidates must reside within the Client service footprint)
Work Setup: Remote with occasional travel

Our client is a leading energy company committed to delivering reliable electric service through innovative infrastructure and technology solutions. The Fiber Networks Specialist will play a critical role in supporting the design, construction, maintenance, and expansion of the client's fiber optic network, which provides mission-critical communications for transmission and distribution operations.
Fiber Networks Specialist Responsibilities
  • Support and manage the client's fiber optic network and related projects.
  • Coordinate with IT, engineering, field personnel, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure successful project execution.
  • Design scalable, reliable, and cost-effective fiber network solutions.
  • Develop project requirements, schedules, budgets, and business cases.
  • Champion safe work practices in compliance with company standards, OSHA regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Conduct field site visits to support construction, maintenance, relocations, and project implementation as needed.
  • Ensure network documentation, drawings, and records remain accurate and up to date.
  • Coordinate planned and unplanned fiber optic events through the Change Management process.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and support network maintenance activities.
Fiber Networks Specialist Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years of direct outside fiber project management experience.
  • Experience working within one or more of the following:
    • Electric transmission or distribution industry
    • Fiber engineering or design firms
    • Fiber installation or maintenance organizations
    • Cable service providers
  • Knowledge of fiber network management and construction practices.
  • Experience with underground fiber construction, distribution power space installations, and transmission line applications.
  • Working knowledge of ADSS and OPGW fiber cable systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience utilizing construction drawings, technical documentation, and project records.
  • Demonstrated project management, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of OSHA, NESC, and related industry standards.
  • Familiarity with underground utility locating requirements and services.
Fiber Networks Specialist Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Visio, FileNet, or similar drawing and document management tools.
  • Knowledge of GIS or mapping applications used for fiber route documentation.
  • Familiarity with optical transport and telecommunications network technologies.
  • Experience managing right-of-way and permitting activities.
Fiber Networks Specialist Level Expectations
Level I

  • Requires 2+ years of direct outside fiber project management experience.

  • Requires 24 years of direct outside fiber project management experience.
Level III
  • Demonstrates advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Possesses excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Exercises independent judgment on projects and assignments.
  • Maintains a strong understanding of customer expectations and industry best practices.
  • Requires 47 years of direct outside fiber project management experience.
Additional Information

The Fiber Networks Specialist is expected to participate in meetings, project discussions, and cross-functional collaboration in a professional, inclusive, and safety-focused manner. Occasional travel within the client's service footprint will be required to support projects, maintenance activities, and stakeholder meetings.
