Scope of Work/Job Characteristics


The Network Engineer will serve as the principal line of communication for the project team. The duties and responsibilities of this position are as follows:


Cross-train staff at all experience levels;


Diagnose and resolve problems across a variety of hardware platforms and vendors, including Aruba, Cisco, Pulse Secure, Hewitt Packard (HP) Aruba, ClearPass, Airwave, Palo Alto Firewalls, etc.;


Communicate and work within cross-departmental teams;


Identify opportunities for automation and improvement to optimize the operation, such as documentation and monitoring adjustments;


Develop and maintain technical specifications, standards, procedures, and systems documentation;


Work with OIT and users to perform server installations, upgrades, and configuration changes; and


Research and recommend appropriate technical solutions to meet functional requirements.


Required Qualifications


A bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field or four (4) years of equivalent work experience is required. Relevant experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis when applicable.


The Department requires the following experience, skills, and knowledge for this position:


Experience working in a large (2,500 users or more) enterprise network environment;


Experience as a lead technician with the responsibility of cross-training team members;


Experience deploying, troubleshooting, and maintaining the following technologies:


Local Area Networks (LAN);


Wide Area Networks (WAN);


Amazon Web Services/Microsoft (MS) Azure cloud instances;


Voice over Internet Protocol (IP);


Quality of Service (QoS);


Jitter;


Latency issues;


Software defined-WAN;


Velo Cloud;


Cradle Point;


Routers;


Virtual Private Networks (VPN);


Next Generation Firewalls (NGFW);


Wireless Access Points;


Load balancers in cloud platforms;


ExpressRoute and Direct Connect connections;


Amazon Virtual Private Cloud and Azure Virtual Network peering; and


Native cloud and 3rd party virtual firewalls (including installation and support);


Maintain simultaneous encryption protocols, including Dynamic and Static Internet Protocol Security (IPSEC), Group Encrypted Transport Visual Power Manager (GETTVPN), Dynamic Multipoint VPN (DMVPN);


Knowledge of designing and deploying Network Access Control via Aruba ClearPass;


Experience with managing Aruba Airwave;


Experience using command-line configuration with Cisco, HP Aruba, and Linux; and


Proficiency in programming in Python and PowerShell scripting.


NOTE: In addition to the above list, the selected Candidates must successfully complete a Level II Background Check.


Preferred Qualifications


The Department prefers the Candidates to have the following experience, skills, and/or knowledge for this position:


Experience at configuring and applying best practices to Next-Generation firewalls (NGFWs), including Palo Alto;


Knowledge of Cacti, Nagios, Solar Winds, Wireshark, and Internet Performance Working Group (IPERF);


Experience configuring and troubleshooting HP/ Aruba switches and Cisco routers;


Knowledge of mapping physical network layouts and logical data flows with MS Visio to ensure the design accurately meets customer needs;


Knowledge of VoIP configurations;


Experience with managing Aruba Central Mobility Controllers;


Experience designing wireless networks with an emphasis on security, creating Heat Maps, creating RF channel plans, and troubleshooting interference issues;


Experience with Linux system administration;


Experience applying IT standards in a criminal justice environment;


Experience working with MyFloridaNet (MFN2) configuration and design and the State Division of Telecommunications;


Experience with Florida state government projects.
