Role Overview
This role supports the mechanical and energetics department in a fast-paced environment. The position involves working with diverse groups to model the mass properties of various launch vehicles. This work is critical to ensuring mission success by meeting performance and weight requirements, which directly impacts national security and advances scientific exploration. This early-career position offers hands-on experience with advanced aerospace systems and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain Mass Properties Models for launch vehicles and subsystems.
- Perform weight and balance analysis, including estimating and optimizing mass properties for launch systems.
- Establish design target weights and track compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Maintain mass properties accounting systems and provide trend analysis for program leadership.
- Support proposal evaluations, design reviews, and operational documentation.
- Conduct component weighing and verification to improve the accuracy of estimates.
- Present findings in technical and program reviews.
- Interact regularly with other groups and departments to gather information and communicate status.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related STEM field.
Experience: 0-5 years of experience in an engineering field.
Technical Skills: Familiarity with MS Office products and a basic understanding of CAD usage.
Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- An active SECRET security clearance.
- Experience in programming with Access VBA and Excel Macros.
- Ability to manage projects and complete them on time with minimal oversight.
- Experience with mass properties concepts from a school or work project, including mass, weight, center of gravity, and moments of inertia.
Compensation & Benefits
The anticipated pay range for this position is $39.00 to $47.00 per hour. Please note that the final pay rate will be determined by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience and qualifications.
