Description:
Senior Platform & Security Engineer (Contract)

Location: Irving, TX
Type: Contract
About the Role

We are looking for a mid- to senior-level engineer to help design, build, and operate a secure, scalable enterprise Data Private Cloud (DPC) platform. In this hybrid engineering role, you will combine platform engineering (Kubernetes/OpenShift and data services) with security engineering, automation, and operational excellence.

You will build platform capabilities, implement secure-by-default workflows across the SDLC, and partner with cross-functional teams to deliver resilient, compliant, high-performance data services at scale.
Responsibilities
Platform Engineering
  • Design and automate workflows for provisioning, deploying, and supporting data services on OpenShift/Kubernetes.
  • Build and maintain platform capabilities for components like Spark, Iceberg, Ranger, Sparkflow, Superset, and related services.
  • Contribute to highly available, scalable architectures supporting large-scale data processing.
  • Improve platform reliability through automation, runbooks, SRE practices, and standardized operating procedures.
Security Engineering & SecOps Enablement
  • Develop security automation enforcing controls for data access, encryption, masking, and data protection.
  • Embed security controls across the SDLC, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and release processes.
  • Support security monitoring and compliance activities, including:
    • Policy management and continuous compliance workflows
    • Audit logging, alerting, and security dashboards
  • Partner with Security, DevOps, and Platform teams to enhance incident readiness, operational resilience, and risk reduction.
Hands-On Development & Collaboration
  • Implement, test, and document Python-based services and automation supporting platform operations and compliance workflows.
  • Collaborate closely with architects, platform engineers, and data product teams on end-to-end solution delivery.
  • Participate in design reviews, threat modeling, and architecture decisions to drive secure deployment patterns.
Minimum Qualifications (5+ Years)
Core Skills
  • Strong Python development experience supporting enterprise automation and service development.
  • Solid understanding of security principles (least privilege, defense-in-depth, secure SDLC) and common compliance concepts.
  • Experience building or operating workloads in Kubernetes or OpenShift environments.
  • Hands-on experience integrating security controls into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Clear, effective communication across engineering and security stakeholders.
Technical Background
  • Familiarity with data security patterns: access control, encryption, tokenization/masking, secrets management.
  • Understanding of DevOps practices: automated testing, release automation, environment promotion, operational support.
  • Exposure to data platform concepts (governance, data services, batch/stream processing, metadata).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Apache/open-source data tools such as Ranger, Keycloak, Spark, Iceberg, or DataHub.
  • Knowledge of S3-compatible storage and distributed data processing patterns.
  • Familiarity with observability tooling (logging, metrics, tracing), security telemetry, and operational dashboards.
  • Experience with incident response and improving operational resilience.
  • Exposure to API design and/or UI development (e.g., React.js) for operational or admin tools.
What Success Looks Like
  • Automated workflows that simplify deploying and operating data services on Kubernetes/OpenShift.
  • Security controls integrated directly into platform workflows-policy enforcement, least privilege, auditing, and automated compliance.
  • Increased platform reliability, reduced manual effort, and standardized operational practices.
  • Strong alignment with platform engineering, data teams, and security partners to deliver secure, scalable solutions.
