Summary

Location: Irving, TX
Salary: $81.00 USD Hourly - $87.00 USD Hourly
Description:
**Job Title: Platform & Security Engineer (Contract)

Location: Irving, TX**
About the Role

We're looking for a mid- to senior-level engineer to help design, build, and operate a secure, scalable enterprise Data Private Cloud (DPC) platform. This hybrid role combines platform engineering (Kubernetes/OpenShift, data services), security engineering (SecOps, guardrails, compliance), and automation. You will enhance platform capabilities across the SDLC, embed security by default, and work with cross-functional partners to deliver resilient, compliant data services at scale.
Responsibilities
Platform Engineering
  • Design and automate platform workflows for provisioning, deploying, and supporting data services on Kubernetes/OpenShift.
  • Build and maintain platform capabilities supporting Spark, Iceberg, Ranger, Sparkflow, Superset, and related data ecosystem tools.
  • Contribute to highly available, scalable architectures for containerized workloads and data processing pipelines.
  • Improve platform reliability through automation, runbooks, SRE best practices, and standardized operating procedures.
Security Engineering & SecOps
  • Build security automation to enforce controls for data access, encryption, masking, and protection across the platform.
  • Integrate security controls into CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and core SDLC processes.
  • Support security monitoring and compliance efforts including:
    • Policy management, evidence collection, continuous compliance
    • Audit logging, alerting, and security dashboards
  • Partner with security, platform, and DevOps teams to strengthen incident readiness, resilience, and risk reduction.
Hands-on Development & Collaboration
  • Build, test, and document Python-based services and automation for platform operations and compliance workflows.
  • Work with architects, platform engineers, and data teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Participate in design reviews, threat modeling sessions, and architecture decisions to ensure secure deployment patterns.
Minimum Qualifications (5+ years)
Core Skills
  • Strong Python development skills for automation and service development at enterprise scale.
  • Solid understanding of security principles (least privilege, defense-in-depth, secure SDLC).
  • Experience building or operating systems in Kubernetes or OpenShift environments.
  • Hands-on experience integrating security checks and controls into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work across engineering and security teams.
Technical Background
  • Familiarity with data security patterns including access control, encryption, tokenization/masking, and secrets management.
  • Understanding of DevOps practices: automated testing, release automation, environment promotion, and operational support.
  • Exposure to data platform concepts (data services, governance, metadata, batch/stream processing).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with tools such as Ranger, Keycloak, Spark, Iceberg, DataHub, or similar open-source technologies.
  • Knowledge of S3-compatible storage and distributed data processing.
  • Familiarity with observability tooling (logging, metrics, tracing) and security telemetry.
  • Experience with incident response and operational resilience improvements.
  • Exposure to API development and/or UI development (e.g., React) for internal tools or admin portals.
What Success Looks Like
  • Fully automated workflows that simplify deployment and operations of data services on Kubernetes/OpenShift.
  • Embedded, default security controls enabling policy enforcement, least privilege, auditability, and compliance automation.
  • Increased platform reliability and reduced operational overhead through standardization and automation.
  • Strong alignment and partnership across platform engineering, data teams, and security stakeholders.
