Tier 2 IT Desktop Support Specialist (End User Computing)

TEKsystems is partnering with a local company who is seeking a skilled Tier 2 IT Desktop Support Specialist. This long-term contract role is critical to ensuring reliable, high-uptime IT services across multiple business areas. The ideal candidate is a strong technical problem-solver with hands-on experience in Windows-based environments, excellent customer service skills, and comfort working onsite in a manufacturing setting where uptime and responsiveness are essential.

Role Overview

The Tier 2 IT Desktop Support Specialist serves as an escalation point for Tier 1 issues and provides advanced support for end-user computing, hardware, software, and production-floor systems. This role partners closely with infrastructure, network, security, and operations teams to maintain stable and efficient IT services across both office and shop floor environments.

Key Responsibilities

Desktop & End-User Support

  • Provide Tier 2 support for desktops, laptops, tablets, and mobile devices (primarily Windows-based).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware, software, and peripheral issues escalated from Tier 1.
  • Support Microsoft Windows 10/11, Microsoft 365, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, and standard business applications.
  • Image, deploy, configure, and maintain desktops and laptops using standard build processes.
  • Support printers, barcode scanners, label printers, and other manufacturing-floor peripherals.

Manufacturing & Shop Floor Support

  • Provide onsite technical support for production-floor systems, including:
    • Manufacturing, quality, and inventory workstations
    • HMIs, thin clients, and industrial PCs (as applicable)
  • Partner with engineering, production, and operations teams to minimize downtime.
  • Respond quickly to IT incidents that impact manufacturing operations.

Systems, Accounts & Access Management

  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and group policies in Active Directory.
  • Assist with onboarding and offboarding processes, including hardware setup, account provisioning, and access controls.
  • Support secure remote access solutions such as VPN, MFA, and remote desktop tools.

Incident, Problem & Asset Management

  • Document incidents, service requests, and resolutions in the ITSM/ticketing system.
  • Identify recurring issues and support root cause analysis and long-term fixes.
  • Track and manage IT assets, including inventory, lifecycle management, and replacements.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Act as an escalation resource and mentor for Tier 1 support staff.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, network, security, and third-party vendors.
  • Create and maintain IT documentation, knowledge base articles, and standard operating procedures.
  • Participate in technology refresh initiatives, system upgrades, and IT projects.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of hands-on IT Desktop or End User Support experience (Tier 2 level or equivalent).
  • Strong troubleshooting experience with:
    • Windows 10/11
    • Microsoft 365
    • Active Directory & Group Policy
    • Intune
    • SharePoint
    • Scripting (PowerShell or similar)
    • Azure environment familiarity
    • Network connectivity and troubleshooting
  • Experience supporting desktops, laptops, printers, and peripherals.
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems and ITIL-based support processes.
  • Ability to work fully onsite in a manufacturing environment (office + shop floor).
  • Strong communication skills with a customer-focused approach.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $33.65/hr.
