 Job Overview

Client is seeking an experienced Power BI Developer to support and enhance the organization’s Business Intelligence Program. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in Power BI development, data modeling, DAX, reporting, integrations, and stakeholder collaboration. This role requires the ability to transform complex business requirements into scalable, high-performing dashboards and semantic data models.

While this is a remote position, candidates must reside within the State of Colorado, preferably in the Denver Metropolitan Area, and be available for occasional onsite collaboration meetings.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements Gathering & Business Analysis

• Collaborate with business users, analysts, and stakeholders to gather reporting and dashboard requirements.
• Translate business objectives into scalable BI solutions and reporting strategies.
• Analyze existing Excel-based processes, reverse engineer formulas and pivot tables, and recommend process improvements and automation opportunities.
• Identify relevant data sources, attributes, and KPIs required for reporting solutions.

Data Modeling & Semantic Layer Development

• Design, document, and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
• Develop reusable semantic models within Power BI.
• Implement row-level and column-level security within Power BI datasets.
• Optimize relationships between tables and improve overall model performance.
• Utilize Tabular Editor Best Practice Analyzer to ensure DAX and modeling best practices.

Data Connectivity & Integration

• Connect Power BI to various enterprise data sources including APIs, BigQuery, ArcGIS feature layers, SQL databases, Excel files, and streaming datasets.
• Ensure efficient data extraction, transformation, and refresh processes.
• Collaborate with integration teams to understand and implement enterprise integration patterns.

DAX & Performance Optimization

• Develop complex DAX calculations, measures, calculated columns, and KPIs.
• Optimize report and dataset performance using DAX Studio and Power BI performance tuning tools.
• Troubleshoot and resolve performance bottlenecks for large datasets and enterprise reports.

Dashboard & Report Development

• Design and develop highly interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI.
• Build advanced visualizations, drill-through functionality, slicers, streaming visuals, and ArcGIS integrations.
• Ensure dashboards are visually appealing, scalable, and aligned with business requirements.

Power BI Service Administration & Deployment

• Publish and manage reports within Power BI Service.
• Configure workspaces, security access, refresh schedules, and deployment pipelines.
• Follow enterprise governance standards for version control and source management using Azure DevOps.

AI & Emerging Technologies

• Leverage AI-powered tools and automation technologies to improve analytics workflows.
• Utilize AI technologies to enhance reporting efficiency and business insights.
• Experience with Google AI tools is considered a plus.

Collaboration & Communication

• Work closely with cross-functional teams and stakeholders across the organization.
• Present technical solutions and business insights to non-technical audiences effectively.
• Conduct working sessions, backlog discussions, requirement gathering meetings, and status updates.
• Provide clear communication and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

• Strong experience developing enterprise solutions using Microsoft Power BI.
• Expertise in Power BI Service, DAX, data modeling, and semantic layer development.
• Experience with SQL databases, APIs, Excel, BigQuery, and streaming datasets.
• Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts and BI best practices.
• Experience implementing row-level security and optimizing Power BI performance.
• Hands-on experience with DAX Studio, Tabular Editor, and Power BI performance tools.
• Proficiency with Azure DevOps for source control and deployment processes.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and business teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with ArcGIS map and feature layer integrations in Power BI.
• Familiarity with Google AI tools and AI-assisted analytics workflows.
• Prior experience working in government or large enterprise environments.
• Experience supporting Agile/Scrum delivery methodologies.

Additional Information

• Candidates must currently reside in Colorado.
• Preference will be given to candidates located in the Denver Metropolitan Area.
• Occasional onsite meetings may be required.
• Long-term engagement expected to exceed 12 months.
