Role Overview
The Senior PeopleSoft Upgrade Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the PeopleSoft payroll platform remains compliant with newly enacted federal legislation. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining PeopleSoft HCM and PeopleTools upgrades, configurations, and infrastructure changes that directly impact payroll accuracy, regulatory compliance, and uninterrupted payroll operations. This position collaborates closely with technical leads and cross-functional project teams to deliver complex payroll system updates across active and retiree environments while balancing ongoing production payroll operations in a highly regulated, large-scale enterprise setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Executes federal legislative update scripts and performs required PeopleSoft configuration changes to support mandated payroll, tax, overtime, and reporting updates.
- Designs, retrofits, and maintains PeopleSoft payroll-related code, interfaces, web services, and reports.
- Installs, configures, patches, and maintains PeopleSoft HCM, PeopleTools, and associated middleware infrastructure to support compliant payroll processing.
- Supports PeopleSoft upgrades and patching activities using Change Assistant and PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM), ensuring minimal disruption to payroll operations.
- Partners with Technical Leads and project teams to coordinate migrations across environments, manage deployment timelines, and meet regulatory implementation deadlines.
- Leads and oversees the design, development, and maintenance of PeopleSoft security infrastructure, including identity, access, and role-based security controls.
- Analyzes existing system customizations across business units to assess impact on timelines, risk, and upgrade strategies.
- Troubleshoots and optimizes PeopleSoft performance through debugging, tuning, and infrastructure optimization.
Required Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or in a Technical/Business Discipline is required.
Experience: A minimum of ten (10) years of hands-on experience working across multiple versions of PeopleSoft and PeopleTools within HCM modules. Proven experience leading multiple PeopleSoft upgrades and patch installations using Change Assistant and PeopleSoft Update Manager (PUM) is required.
Technical Skills: Strong working knowledge of PeopleSoft HCM v9.2 (PUM 39+), Fluid UI technology, and PeopleTools v8.59+. Experience administering Oracle WebLogic, App Designer, and Oracle SQL. Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and maintaining PeopleSoft security, identity, and access management solutions. Strong skills in PeopleSoft debugging, tuning, server virtualization, and high-availability architectures, including Oracle RAC integrations. Hands-on experience supporting PeopleSoft and PeopleTools on UNIX platforms (AIX preferred).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting enterprise-wide, large-scale PeopleSoft implementations in complex environments.
- Prior work in matrixed organizations with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
- PeopleSoft Upgrade Administration certification.
- Advanced experience with Change Assistant tools, PUM automation, shell scripting, and SQL.
- Familiarity with or prior experience supporting large-scale public sector payroll systems.
Compensation & Benefits
Pay Rate: $70.00/hr - $85.00/hr
