Software Engineer (Python development)

Job Title: Software Engineer (Python development)
Location: Remote - Daily stand up 9 EST
Duration: 6-month contract +; potential for FT conversion

What the Hiring Manager Needs

• Primary language: Python (not Java)
• Wants true Python software engineers, not data engineers who write Python for ETL.
• Frameworks:
• FastAPI preferred, but Django/Flask acceptable if they ve built real microservices.
• Role expectations:
• Senior-level engineer who can own backend services, not just code tasks.
• Must be able to communicate with application teams and discuss integration patterns.
• Needs someone who can operate independently as the only software engineer on the project for a period of time.

Key Responsibilities

Software Development

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs supporting the benefits renewal ecosystem.
• Build scalable, reliable, and secure software components within a cloudnative environment.
• Write clean, maintainable, and welltested code following engineering best practices.

API & Integration Work

• Develop and consume RESTful APIs.
• Collaborate with data engineering teams to integrate data pipelines and backend services.
• Ensure seamless communication between systems within the client architecture.

Cloud & Platform Engineering

• Work within Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform) to build and deploy services.
• Leverage cloudnative tools and services to optimize performance and scalability.
• Participate in CI/CD workflows and automated deployment processes.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience with Flask, FastAPI, or similar API frameworks or Java frameworks like SpringBoot
• 5+ years of experience with Python
• 3+ years of experience with build automation technologies
• 3+ years of software development in enterprise/web/cloud applications

Preferred

• Experience with Java
• Experience with relational/NoSQL databases. Knowledge to Google Cloud Platform cloud stores(Spanner , BigTable) is a plus.

Experience with Google Cloud Platform preferably, but alternatively Azure or AWS
