Job DetailsA growing custom manufacturing company in the Minneapolis area is seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer to support new product introduction, process development, tooling implementation, and continuous manufacturing improvement within a low-volume, high-mix production environment.
This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys owning the manufacturing process from concept through production launch - including material selection, tooling coordination, fixture integration, machine modifications, operator quality setup, and process optimization.
The company manufactures highly engineered converted materials and custom components used across a variety of industrial applications. This is a visible role within a collaborative team where engineering has a direct impact on operations, quality, and production success.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead manufacturing engineering activities from initial concept through production release
- Develop and maintain BOMs and Bills of Operation (BOO)
- Coordinate tooling and die ordering for new products and processes
- Analyze materials, tolerances, machine capabilities, and manufacturability requirements
- Design and incorporate fixtures and process improvements into production
- Support machine modifications and process optimization initiatives
- Establish operator quality standards and production documentation
- Collaborate with production, quality, and leadership teams to improve throughput, safety, and consistency
- Manage approximately 25-35 new part introductions per month in a low-volume manufacturing environment
- Ensure manufacturing processes prioritize both safety and quality, not just cost reduction
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering required
- 5+ years of hands-on Manufacturing Engineering experience
- Experience owning manufacturing processes from start to finish
- Strong understanding of materials, tooling, tolerances, and production machinery
- Experience with BOMs, BOOs, fixtures, and process implementation
- Background working with rotary machines, die cutting equipment, or similar manufacturing systems
- Proficiency with CAD software; SolidWorks or Creo preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within adhesives, tapes, foams, rubber, insulation, converting, or related materials industries
- Familiarity with printing press or web machine environments
- Knowledge of Epicor ERP
- Strong safety and statistical quality control (SQC) mindset
