OverviewM&T Bank is seeking a Software Engineer II to join its Digital Technology team. This role is responsible for designing, developing, enhancing, and supporting enterprise applications while collaborating with business and technology stakeholders. The ideal candidate will possess strong full-stack development expertise with Java, React, SQL Server/Azure, and modern web technologies.
The Software Engineer II will contribute to complex development initiatives, lead technical activities on projects, perform system analysis and application design, and ensure delivery of scalable and reliable software solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise applications and software solutions.
- Perform systems analysis, technical design, coding, debugging, and implementation activities.
- Collaborate with business users, architects, developers, QA teams, and operations teams.
- Lead technical efforts on small to medium-sized projects and mentor junior developers.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, design specifications, and project estimates.
- Develop and execute unit testing and assist with integration and user acceptance testing.
- Analyze application performance and recommend improvements.
- Support production applications and troubleshoot complex issues.
- Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to development standards and best practices.
- Work closely with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Evaluate new technologies and recommend improvements to existing systems.
- Ensure compliance with M&T Bank's risk, security, and regulatory standards.
Required Qualifications- Associate's Degree with 5+ years of software development experience OR
- 7+ years of combined education and professional experience, including 5+ years of software/application development experience.
- Strong experience in software engineering, systems analysis, and application development.
- Experience working on multiple complex projects simultaneously.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Experience driving project milestones and delivery timelines.
- Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications- Strong understanding of enterprise application frameworks.
- Experience supporting integrated systems and complex application environments.
- Ability to lead technical discussions and project activities.
- Experience coordinating between business units and development teams.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and action-oriented mindset.
