Python Driver Developer - Quantam

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client that is seeking a Python Driver Developer - Scientific Instrumentation in Redmond, WA.

Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Python Developer to support our Quantum Systems Software team in developing QCoDeS-based drivers for new scientific instruments being introduced into our lab. This is a 6-9 month contract engagement with potential for extension based on project needs.

Scope of Work:
The contractor will:
* Develop, test, and validate QCoDeS instrument drivers for a variety of lab instruments (e.g., switch matrices, DMMs, SMUs, RF instrumentation, etc.)
* Work closely with our engineering team to integrate new devices into our existing measurement stack
* Implement robust instrument communication over USB, Ethernet, GPIB, or vendor specific APIs
* Contribute to documentation, example notebooks, and integration testing
* Assist with troubleshooting instrument control issues during lab bring-up

REQUIREMENTS:
* Strong proficiency in Python, including object oriented programming and modular code design
* Experience developing against hardware APIs or instrument control libraries (e.g., pyVISA, SCPI, vendor SDKs)

Hands on experience interacting with scientific or test and measurement instruments such as:
* Digital multimeters (DMMs)
* Source-measure units (SMUs)
* Switch matrices
* RF or timing instruments

* Familiarity with QCoDeS or similar lab automation frameworks
* Ability to work independently, collaborate with engineers, and deliver high-quality, production-ready code
* Experience with TCP APIs

Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience working in research labs or hardware bring-up environments
* Familiarity with Git/GitHub workflows and automated testing frameworks
* Understanding of SCPI, or low-level hardware communication

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
