Description: Title - Sr. Program Safety and Reliability Engineer III (EHS) Location - North Hollywood, CA Duration - 3 to 6 months with the possibility of extension A Shift M-F 6 AM - 430 PM Prescreen Questions - describe your experience leading hazard identification and control activities in a high-risk operational environment (e.g., aerospace test, pilot plant, R&D, or chemical processing). - Embedded Safety Leadership & Cross-Functional Work
This role is an embedded safety lead working day-to-day with engineering, test, facilities, and corporate EHS. Describe a situation where you served as the primary safety or reliability focal point for a development or test campaign. How did you: (a) balance schedule pressure with risk, (b) partner with a central EHS/HSSE organization, and (c) drive closure of corrective/preventive actions through to verification?
EHS Coordinator Position Summary The Site EHS Coordinator position will support day-to-day environmental, health, and safety activities at our North Hollywood, California facility.
This role will work under the direction of the Site Sr. EHS Engineer to implement, maintain, and support site EHS programs. This is a hands-on facility role.
Direct working experience with Cal/OSHA is required without exception. Candidates must have practical, hands-on experience implementing or maintaining Cal/OSHA programs at a California facility. General OSHA experience alone is not sufficient.
The ideal candidate has approximately 5-6 years of hands-on EHS experience, is comfortable working on the floor in a fast-paced facility, and can support inspections, training, documentation, incident investigations, corrective actions, and Cal/OSHA program implementation. Environmental regulatory compliance experience is a plus.
Key Responsibilities - Work under the direction of the Site Sr. EHS Engineer to implement and maintain site EHS programs.
- Support facility compliance with Cal/OSHA regulations, California workplace safety requirements, and applicable state and local EHS requirements.
- Implement, maintain, and support Cal/OSHA-required programs, including but not limited to:
- Injury and Illness Prevention Program
- Emergency action planning
- Powered industrial truck safety
- Conduct routine facility EHS inspections and walkthroughs.
- Identify unsafe conditions
- Track corrective actions through completion and verify effectiveness.
- Support hands-on safety activities related to maintenance, equipment moves, chemical handling, contractor work, and non-routine tasks.
- Assist with JHAs, PPE assessments, risk assessments, safe work procedures, inspection reports, training records, SDS records, and corrective action trackers.
- Support new hire EHS orientation and employee safety training.
- Assist with incident, near-miss, spill, and injury investigations.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective action follow-up.
- Assist with environmental activities as needed, including hazardous waste, universal waste, chemical inventory, SDS management, waste inspections, labeling, and spill response readiness.
- Perform other EHS-related duties as assigned by the Site Sr. EHS Engineer.
Skills: - Support onboarding and indoctrination of new employees on program safety and EHS expectations
- Assist in waste disposal activities including hazardous waste, non-hazardous waste, universal waste, and recycling materials in coordination with EHS
- Contribute to the injury/illness and near miss reporting process, including investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action development
- Develop, update, and deliver safety and EHS training relevant to program operations
- Serve as a program focal point for safety and environmental issues and concerns
- Evaluate operations for continuous process improvement and implementation of preventive action measures
- Support development, review, and closure of job hazard analyses and risk assessments
- Provide subject matter expertise to engineering and production resources related to safety, process safety, and EHS
- Provide safety and EHS-related input for equipment, facility, and operational design changes
- Perform periodic audits and assessments of safety programs, work areas, and operational readiness
- Support Management of Change (MOC), non-routine process approval, construction safety oversight, emergency response planning, and go/no-go safety readiness review
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Approximately 5-6 years of hands-on EHS experience in a manufacturing, aerospace, industrial, warehouse, laboratory, R&D, test, or facilities environment.
- Direct working experience with Cal/OSHA regulations is required without exception.
- Hands-on experience implementing or maintaining Cal/OSHA general industry programs at a California facility is mandatory.
- Experience conducting safety inspections, hazard assessments, incident investigations, and corrective action follow-up.
- Strong documentation, organization, communication, and follow-up skills.
- Comfortable working hands-on in a fast-paced facility environment.
- Environmental regulatory compliance experience is a plus.
- Ability to walk the facility regularly and perform field inspections.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to climb stairs and access production, warehouse, test, lab, and facility areas.
- Ability to occasionally lift or carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to wear required PPE.
- Ability to work in industrial or facility environments as needed
Minimum Qualifications: - Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering, chemistry, environmental science, industrial hygiene, occupational safety, or a related technical field
- 10+ years total work experience in safety, EHS, process safety, system safety, reliability engineering, or operational risk management
- 5+ years work experience in an operational aerospace environment, manufacturing, chemical industry, pilot plant, prototyping, or test operations
- Knowledge of applicable OSHA, EPA, NFPA, ANSI, and state/local regulations
- Knowledge of Process Safety Management methods and hazard control principles
- Experience supporting hazard assessments, job hazard analyses (JHAs), risk assessments, and implementation of corrective and preventive actions
- Experience supporting incident/accident reporting practices, investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action closure
- Ability to provide safety input to design reviews, test reviews, readiness reviews, and non-routine operations
- Knowledge and ability to use industrial hygiene tools and monitors, or ability to interpret and apply industrial hygiene data in partnership with EHS
- Expertise in writing technical reports, safety assessments, procedures, and investigation summaries
- Good analytical skills and attention to detail, with an ability to interpret and communicate complex technical information
- Ability to work effectively across engineering, operations, test, facilities, and EHS teams
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment with evolving program needs and schedule pressure
- Candidate must be able to lift/carry up to fifty pounds, physically climb multiple flights of stairs, withstand prolonged standing, and work in adverse weather or industrial conditions as needed
