Job Title: CAD Project Manager

Duration: 5 Months

Location: Onsite, Austin, TX

Pay Range: $70- $75 Hourly

Role Overview

The Data Center Engineering team is seeking a CAD-focused Project Manager who combines strong 2D/3D CAD capability (SolidWorks and related tools) with program/project leadership and vendor coordination skills. This person will serve as the central liaison between internal engineering stakeholders and external vendors/outside firms, helping the team scale drafting and modeling capacity through outsourced partners while maintaining quality, consistency, and schedule. This role is ideal for a CAD technical professional with strong people skills-someone who can translate requirements, manage deliverables, and keep multiple parties aligned while maintaining enough hands-on CAD fluency to support ideation, review, and direction-setting.

Key Responsibilities

Project & Deliverable Leadership

• Own the end-to-end coordination of CAD deliverables, including scope definition, schedules, milestones, dependencies, and risk management.
• Drive clear deliverable expectations and ensure on-time, high-quality outputs across internal teams and external vendors.
• Build and maintain trackers/dashboards for deliverables, change requests, approvals, and release readiness.

CAD Coordination & Technical Direction (2D/3D)

• Support ideation and concept development using 2D/3D CAD to communicate layouts, assemblies, and design intent.
• Provide CAD-informed guidance and review of drawings/models produced by vendors/drafters to ensure they match requirements, standards, and revision expectations.
• Maintain version control discipline and ensure CAD packages are properly documented, labeled, and released.

Vendor / Outside Firm Management (Outsourced Drafting Model)

• Act as the single point of contact for external drafting and CAD firms: onboarding, work package definition, deliverable review cycles, and issue resolution.
• Ensure outsourced partners understand company standards, templates, and review/approval processes.
• Coordinate vendor capacity planning and prioritize intake to match internal timelines.

Cross-Functional Communication & Stakeholder Management

• Translate stakeholder needs into actionable CAD tasks and work packages.
• Run working sessions with internal teams and vendors; document decisions, action items, and next steps.
• Ensure consistent communication across multiple engineering groups and external partners.

Change Management & Quality Control

• Manage revision cycles, redlines, and change requests with disciplined documentation and traceability.
• Define and enforce QC checks (drawing completeness, modeling conventions, naming standards, basic constructability checks, etc.).
• Escalate risks early (scope creep, unclear requirements, rework patterns, vendor blockers) and drive resolution.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years in a role combining CAD/drafting and project coordination/PM responsibilities (or equivalent experience).
• Demonstrated proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD, with strong preference for SolidWorks.
• Experience coordinating multiple stakeholders (engineering, operations, vendors, consultants) and managing deliverables through structured workflows.
• Strong written and verbal communication-able to simplify technical information and drive alignment.
• Proven ability to organize ambiguity into clear requirements, milestones, and outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting mission-critical environments (data centers, industrial facilities, high-availability infrastructure) or complex build programs.
• Familiarity with additional tools (any of the following): AutoCAD, Revit, Inventor, Creo, CATIA, Navisworks, Bluebeam, BIM 360 / ACC, or similar (nice to have).
• Vendor management experience (SOW-style work packages, review cycles, QA expectations, capacity planning).
• Experience creating or enforcing CAD standards, templates, title blocks, layer conventions, naming/versioning rules.

Portfolio / Work Sample Requirement

Candidates must submit examples of prior work demonstrating:

• 2D drawing sets (e.g., layouts, assemblies, detail drawings, annotation standards)
• 3D models/assemblies (SolidWorks preferred)
• Evidence of revision control and documentation quality (before/after redlines is a plus)
