DevOps/Network Operations Engineer - Linux / Kubernetes

Employment Type: 28 Week Contract, Potential for Extension or Conversion

Work Environment: 24/7 Operations (On-Call Rotation Required)

Location: Philadelphia, PA Onsite/Hybrid

Pay: Available on W2

Position Overview

Seeking a Network Operations Engineer to support a large-scale distributed access architecture initiative focused on delivering high-speed, scalable network capabilities through virtualization. This role is part of an operations team responsible for platform stand-up, system reliability, and ongoing support of next-generation network infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in networking, Linux systems, and containerized environments, with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, 24/7 production environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support platform stand-up activities, including software installation, system configuration, and network setup
  • Execute change management activities such as system upgrades, risk mitigation, and automation scripting
  • Monitor and troubleshoot network and system issues to ensure stability and performance
  • Perform incident mitigation and resolution as part of an on-call rotation (including nights, weekends, and holidays)
  • Identify recurring issues and partner with engineering teams to implement long-term solutions
  • Support operations for virtualized network platforms (e.g., vCMTS environments)
  • Collaborate with product and project teams to integrate and operationalize new technologies
  • Develop and maintain automation tools using scripting languages
  • Assist with hardware deployment, replacement, and troubleshooting
  • Contribute to process improvements and operational efficiency initiatives


Requirements

Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in a production operations environment (24/7 support model)
  • Strong experience with:
  • Unix/Linux systems administration
  • Networking fundamentals and troubleshooting
  • Scripting/automation (e.g., Bash, Python)
  • Experience with network configuration and troubleshooting across enterprise devices (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Arista)
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues
  • Experience working in high-availability environments with on-call responsibilities
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Kubernetes and containerized environments
  • Familiarity with Jenkins, Ansible, and Git
  • Relevant networking certifications (e.g., CCNA, JNCIA)
  • Experience with infrastructure automation and system monitoring
  • Exposure to new product integration and deployment in production environments
  • Experience defining and managing IT service processes and performance metrics
